Job Description
Background:
Since 1999, the IRC has developed partnerships with New York City public schools, community-based organizations and local colleges and universities to support the positive development of refugee youth and their communities in New York City. The Youth Education Department provides year-round programming working directly with refugee youth, their parents and families, and their schools.
Scope of Work:
The Newcomer Youth Summer Academy (NYSA) is a six-week program that prepares newly arrived refugee youth to succeed at their grade level in the New York City public school system. Up to 130 students from ages 5 – 21 from over 20 countries will participate in academic, creative arts, social-emotional learning, physical education, field trips and life skills classes.
The IRC is seeking a Social Emotional Learning Teachers to create and implement social emotional learning curriculum for Upper School (Grades 6-12). The Social Emotional Learning Teacher will instruct up to twelve lessons each week. The classes will be held between 12:30 pm and 3:30 pm, Monday – Thursday.
Following pre-program training, the SEL Teacher will be expected to understand how their contributions fit into the larger Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) model for supporting students at the Academy and liaise with other professionals accordingly, especially the classroom teaching staff and the Student Support Team.
