Open Plans is a 501(c)3 non-profit with a mission to transform how people experience New York City’s streets. Through grassroots advocacy and policy, we envision a city in which human connection, creativity, and climate are flourishing because people’s needs take precedence over the storage and movement of private motor vehicles.  

We are seeking a creative and versatile Social Media Associate to lead Open Plans’ digital content creation, primarily for social media. Open Plans is a growing organization, seeking to more firmly establish its presence in the social realm. This individual will be the primary staff person writing and posting on Open Plans’ social media, and will collaborate with team members to create strategies and content that expands Open Plans’ audience, builds engagement, and drives public dialogue. In this role, you’ll serve as a cross-department partner, supporting our policy, advocacy, and communications colleagues with engaging content creation. 

This role will help establish and execute the brand’s social media voice across different platforms to share organizational news, campaign goals, and other relevant information. The ideal candidate is someone with a unique and engaging style, who has excellent intuition for storytelling and experience translating content for multiple social media platforms. This role will report to the Director of Communications and will work closely with them and Open Plans’ graphic designer.

Responsibilities

• Create social media content for a variety of platforms with a goal to increase engagement and solidify brand position and voice
• Manage social media calendar and related tools
• Keep up to date with emerging best practices, trends and networks
• Help execute Open Plans’ first-ever video strategy
• Work with colleagues and the Director of Communications to identify storylines, CTAs and other topics to be shared on social media and in newsletters
• Collaborate with Communications colleagues on identifying relevant social content for the bi-monthly newsletter and translating it for that platform
• Manage engagement analytics; use findings to inform content and strategy 

Qualifications

• At least 3 years of demonstrated social media or digital content creation
• Keen understanding of social trends, audiences, reporting and paid tactics
• Experience following and helping build social media strategies
• Engaging writing skills
• Adept video editing skills with a desire to learn more
• An enthusiastic team player who wants to help the organization grow and thrive
• A self-starter who takes initiative and cares to get things done efficiently and well
• Demonstrated experience of working independently and on a team
• Ability to juggle multiple tasks and priorities with grace 
• Excellent communication skills and emotional fluency
• Basic knowledge and interest in the fields of urbanism, livability, and public space
• Ability to address complex topics with nuance, propriety, and care
• Experience with social media managers and digital tools such as Sprout Social and linktree a plus etc.
