The primary role of the social worker will be to provide trauma focused therapy to children and youth, ages 4-19 years. The social worker will provide assessment, therapeutic interventions, and consultations with children /adolescents with a primary concern of trauma related to childhood maltreatment. The social worker partners with birth, kinship, adoptive, and foster families to offer trauma informed parenting practices to build and enhance safety. The social worker will have knowledge and skills in complex trauma focused individual, family, and group therapy, having current knowledge of issues pertaining to family dynamics, child maltreatment, mental health, addictions, psychosocial formulation, intimate partner violence and criminal justice. The successful applicant will have experience in trauma responsive, culturally safe care. The social worker will collaborate with Mental Health and Addictions Teams to provide shared care services to children, youth, and families. The Social Worker will be responsible to liaise and consult with a range of community, health, and government services with an emphasis on building collaborative partnerships, facilitating resource acquisition and advocating for appropriate resources to meet the client’s needs. This position involves the preparation of comprehensive treatment plans, goals and outcomes for the Nova Scotia Supreme Court, Family Division. The Social Worker will have responsibilities in supervising clinical MSW student placements, teaching, program development, program evaluation, and research as needed. The social worker will be a member of the START Steering Committee and working groups as required.Hours of WorkMonday to Wednesday first week and Thursday Fridays second week (8:30 am – 4:30 pm), some variations in working times will be required as needed.Your Qualifications

  • Masters Degree in Social Work required.
  • Current license, or eligible for licensure, with the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers (NSCSW) required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years clinical experience as a Masters prepared Social Worker required.
  • Knowledge of child maltreatment, mental health & addictions, intimate partner violence, principles of human development, human sexuality, gender development, attachment, family development and processes (family, relational, systemic dynamics)
  • Advanced Psychotherapy skills in addressing trauma (Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT) and/or other evidence informed trauma therapies (EMDR, Somatic), therapeutic rapport, dynamic risk assessment, therapeutic play),
  • Knowledge of the Child and Family Services Act required.
  • Working knowledge of the DSM-5 considered an asset.
  • Experience in individual, family and group therapy preferred.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the social, structural, emotional, psychological, and cultural determinants/factors that affect well-being.
  • Demonstrated ability to use an anti-oppressive framework in practice.
  • Demonstrated ability to reach a joint formulation with the client and family.
  • Demonstrated excellent time management, critical thinking, organization, decision making, and problem-solving skills required.
  • Demonstrated exceptional interpersonal, presentation and communication (verbal and written) skills required.
  • Demonstrated comfort and skill in working collaboratively with internal and external partnerships required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously as well as part of an interprofessional team required.
  • Experience in Meditech, MS Outlook, and MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) preferred.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset; French preferred.
