Services are provided to youth who are either remanded or sentenced to the Nova Scotia Youth Facility (NSYF), a modern correctional facility, and/or youth hospitalized in the Secure Care Unit (SCU). The SCU is a 24-7 inpatient unit of the IWK which provides service to youth who are found not criminally responsible, require fitness or other assessment/treatment and are involved with the Justice system. The successful applicant may also be asked to gather social histories to support court ordered Section 34 mental health assessments.The Clinical Social Worker will participate in the ongoing planning, development, and evaluation of Youth Forensic Services and offer education and consultation as required. Utilizing recognized evidence-based practice, interventions and follow-up may be provided on a direct and/or consultative basis to the SCU, NSYF, to youth, their families, support networks, schools and community partners. The Clinical Social Worker will also be responsible to liaise with a range of health and human service providers and government services with an emphasis on building collaborative partnerships, facilitating resource acquisition and advocating for appropriate resources to meet the client’s needs. The incumbent will be part of the IWK Mental Health and Addictions Program. Accountability will be to the Manager, Youth Forensic Services, Waterville Site, with day to day liaison with representatives of Youth Correctional Services and community partners. The incumbent must be able to work within deadlines and to work effectively with other members of the team to meet the standards of the program.This position will be based in Waterville and will require minimal travel to meet families and community partners.
