Developers are part of a scrum team where they utilize their skills and competencies to support the Train in the delivery of quality software. Team members also belong to a Chapter, where they cultivate new and necessary skills as they define the technical shape of the organization.We are looking for a Clean Code Software Developer to join our team and work with our existing squads to champion clean software development best practices.“Any fool can write code that a computer can understand. Good programmers write code that humans can understand.” – Martin FowlerThe Clean Code chapter is focused on, but not limited to, the skills and tech stack for Software Development around:Clean Coding practices and principles (SOLID, CUPID, etc)Refactoring legacy codeCode coverage and quality gatesCode reviewUnit testingComponent level automated testing and test mocksAs part of a squad you will support all aspects of software development including estimates, coding, testing, code review, automation and support of solutions and their deployment process. Squads support specific services which work together to provide flight operation solutions for airlines to run safe and performant operations.Squads can be flexible, so there is always an opportunity to work on new and existing technologies, as well as new or existing solutions, bringing your experience to a variety of challenges.Responsibilities:Coding, testing, documenting and debugging assigned development tasks to meet acceptance criteriaParticipate in learning via code reviews and chapter learning activities and design reviewsImplementing unit tests for new and existing codeRefactoring legacy code to improve readability and testabilitySupport the implementation of features according to designs and specificationsParticipate and support estimating of storiesReview proposed test cases and test automation to execute themCommunicate ideas and plans verbally and written in support of a squadUse problem solving skills to make progress on implementations and issues under the supervision of senior team membersSolving well defined issues for support and customers as neededSupport agile development concepts and participate in our SAFe processDriven to self learn technical and non-technical skillsSupport squad and self based continual improvementActively participate in all squad activities with a positive encouraging attitudeEducation:Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, or equivalentExperience:Experience with unit testing frameworksExperience with automated functional testing frameworks are an assetKnowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities & Competencies:Must work effectively with others in a team environmentGood understanding of clean coding practices & principles (SOLID, CUPID, etc)Legacy code refactoring patternsUnit testing, possibly including test driven developmentTechnical Systems Proficiency:SonarQube or other code quality analyzersUnit testing tools/frameworks. xUnit, etc.AWS / Cloud infrastructure a plusPerks:Located in the heart of University of Waterloo’s David Johnston Research + Technology Park, NAVBLUE is close to shops, restaurants, gyms, daycare, and many other amenities, and only 10 minutes away from Hwy 85.
