  • Building computational models of components, products and processes.
  • Support our partners integrate hierarchical and multilevel modelling approaches that enable efficient integration of novel methods in their applications.
  • Working with Business Development on project scoping, in particular, identifying appropriate objectives to address client challenges, and feasibility assessment of technologies required to meet objectives and support our business development managers with technical pre-sales.
  • Learn and apply HPC, data centric, analytics and AI technologies to enable our customers to tackle new challenges.
  • Look at validation of conclusions, and presentation of results to customers (including advanced visualisation).
  • Contributing and writing project applications for funding from national and international competitions.
  • Project management across a range of project sizes and types, typically involving members from multiple groups within Hartree (including Research Software Engineering, HPC, Artificial Intelligence and Data Science).
  • Make site visits to commercial and academic partners.
  • Publish non-confidential results.

Person Specification:

  • Degree in applied mathematics, computing or engineering subject area with a strong mathematics component.
  • A PhD or equivalent professional experience in at least two areas with relevance to extreme-scale computing, mathematics, Computational Science and engineering.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience using modelling and simulation to give insight into the behaviour of physical systems, including building large and complex modelling software with dependencies
  • Knowledge of HPC: performance profiling and development of parallel software (both shared- and distributed-memory) with a compiled language such as C/C++ or Fortran.
  • Can work as part of a team and independently.
  • Able to work with a range of clients and have an interest in technical pre-scales.
  • Experience in at least one of the following: Large scale, distributed-memory algorithms; Heterogenous/accelerated computing.
  • Strong leadership skills with previous experience and ability to lead, motivate and develop others.
