In this role you will provide legal and commercial input and support to all aspects of Suncor’s operations, with emphasis on issues managed out of the corporate legal office. You will also support the corporate secretary and general counsel in all aspects of Suncor’s business.Minimum Requirements:LLB or equivalent and membership in Law Society of AlbertaMinimum 2 to a maximum of 4 years of broad legal experience in general corporate and commercial law; experience with securities law would be considered an assetKnowledge of the oil and gas industry preferredAbility to synthesize a wide range of principles, issues, needs and outcomes, balancing legal, commercial and other issues (people impacts, company reputation, and others)A high degree of flexibility and the ability to readily adapt to changes in Suncor’s business priorities and plansDemonstrated ability to think “outside the box” and be a creative problem solverResponsibilities:Provide legal advice covering a broad functional scope including treasury and corporate finance (debt and equity offerings; credit facilities)Develop expertise and provide support employment and benefits law, commercial transactions, board and corporate governance, litigation strategy and managementContribute to internal and external communication and reportingDraft contracts, templates, policies, communications, and external disclosure documentsParticipate in transactional negotiations, including strategic mergers, acquisitions or divestituresProvide commercial input related to business processes and commercial transactionsIdentify and manage areas of legal riskLocation and other Key Details:Our business professional roles follow internal compensation guidelines and the pay band will generally be based years of experience and scope of workThis is an office-based role; you will work out of our Calgary head office located in the Suncor Energy Centre (150 – 6th Ave SW)Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended on-call work hours based on business needsWhy Suncor?Suncor’s operations include oil sands development, production and upgrading; offshore oil and gas; petroleum refining in Canada and the U.S.; and the company’s Petro-Canada retail and wholesale distribution networks (including Canada’s Electric Highway™, a coast-to-coast network of fast-charging electric vehicle stations).With a strong strategy for growth and our long-standing approach to sustainability, operational excellence, capital discipline and technology and innovation, Suncor offers a solid foundation for you to continue building your career.
