An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Occupational Therapist with a passion for Oncology and Haematology to join the Haem-Onc rotation. Our cancer services based at Charing Cross and Hammersmith Hospitals offers a unique opportunity to work in a leading specialist cancer centre. We offer the most up-to-date chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments, which leads to one of the best survival rates in the country. In this specialist role, you will be a senior therapist providing high quality occupational therapy, to inpatients with oncology and haematology conditions.We are looking for a dynamic, forward thinking and passionate therapist with excellent leadership, communication skills and advanced clinical skills, to join the team and deliver high quality, timely care. You will possess the ability to remain calm and professional under pressure. It is important that the successful applicant is a team player with a positive outlook, has enthusiasm and has the ability to learn and develop new skills.You must be able to demonstrate sound knowledge and experience in Oncology and Haematology possessing highly specialist assessment, treatment and risk management skills. The ability to work autonomously, but also well within a multi-disciplinary team is essential, as is the ability to promote the role of Therapies and the implementation of evidence-based practice. In addition to the clinical caseload, the post holder will have the opportunity to play a key part in the development of the Therapy service and the team.Our Trust is part of the London Cancer Alliance. This role is Macmillan adopted which allows the post holder to access further learning and development opportunities.Main duties of the job

  • To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own work, including management of patients in your care and undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.
  • To provide comprehensive and specialist therapy assessment and diagnosis for patients with a range of highly complex presentations, by utilising advanced clinical reasoning, evidence-based knowledge, investigative and analytical skills and specialist assessment techniques.
  • To work both independently and within a team structure, demonstrating leadership to manage own and team caseload. To efficiently manage a caseload and organise this effectively with regard to clinical priorities and use of time.
  • To formulate and deliver an individualised and specialist care plan / therapy management programme based on advanced knowledge of evidence based practice, advanced clinical reasoning skills and a wide range of specialist treatment options. As a specialist clinician to provide a second opinion where required.
  • To provide clarity and communicate complex clinical findings to the patient/carers to gain valid informed consent, prior to any intervention. To work within a legal framework for those patients who lack the capacity to consent to treatment.
  • To communicate with patients in a way that empowers them to make informed choices about the management of their condition and engages them in the planning and delivery of treatment.

  • Evidence of CPD through maintenance of a portfolio, especially in the relevant clinical area
  • Clinical Educators course or equivalent

  • Significant recent clinical experience in relevant clinical area
  • Experience of multidisciplinary goal planning, development of care pathways and using outcome measures
  • Experience in implementing evidence based practice in speciality
