The post holder is expected to contribute to academic, audit and clinical governance issues within the department and the Trust. In addition to the duties and responsibilities listed, the job holder may be required to perform other duties assigned by the supervisor/manager from time to time.The ENT department currently consists of 6 consultants, 5 Specialty Doctors, 2 Specialist Registrars, 4 ST1/2 posts as part of a GP training scheme, and 1 Foundation Year 2 doctor. All training posts are recognised for training by the Royal College of Surgeons and Royal college of General Practitioners.Main duties of the jobThe Duties outlined below are not definitive and may be changed in accordance with the needs of the service.The principal role of the post-holder is to be an active member of the team. The post-holder is expected to undertake clinics, theatre lists, on-call work, and contribute time and effort to the day-to-day clinical matters that may arise. The post-holder is expected to take a teamwork approach to relationships with other departments, clinic and theatre staff.The post-holder is invited to contribute to academic, audit and clinical governance issues within the department and the Trust.In addition to the duties and responsibilities listed, the jobholder may be required to perform other duties assigned by the supervisor/manager from time to time. Job responsibilitiesThe ENT department places a strong emphasis on medical education and training as shown by the most recent GMC survey results (2023) where teaching and training was rated the best in the UK.The successful candidate will be assigned a consultant mentor and have regular meetings to focus on areas for professional development and learning. We have a weekly Wednesday lunchtime educational meeting, and a monthly departmental governance meeting. There are opportunities for presenting cases and projects, as well as learning from colleagues.Applicants are therefore not entitled to withhold information about convictions, including those, which, for other purposes are spent, under the provisions of the Act, and are required to disclose convictions, including those pending, to the Trust. Failure to disclose such information may result in dismissal or disciplinary action.The appointments are subject to standard pre-employment checks including references and a satisfactory medical examinationPerson Specification
Qualifications
Essential

  • MBBS (or equivalent)
  • Registration with GMC with license to practice.

Desirable

  • Successful completion of MRCS or equivalent.

Clinical Experience
Essential

  • Completed F1 and F2 year (or equivalent outside of UK)
  • Completed a further 24 months in surgery of which at least 12 months in ENT (minimum 4 years post-graduate experience)
  • Able to practice ENT independently within outpatient, inpatient, and emergency setting including on-call.
  • Recent experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices (or equivalent)

Desirable

  • Able to apply principles of evidence based practice systematically.
  • Able to use time and resources efficiently while delivering high quality care

Management Administration
Essential

  • Good organisational and time management skills
  • Willingness to work collaboratively with administrative and management staff

Desirable

  • Good oral & written presentation skills
  • Evidence of service improvement projects

Teaching & Research
Essential

  • Experience in teaching undergraduates and post-graduates.
  • Demonstrates interest in research

Desirable

  • Evidence of contribution to published research
