Species Recovery Officer (Beaver Licencing)

About the role

Join us in helping to bring wild beavers back to one of England’s most significant catchments, delivering this exciting project on behalf of the Humber Beaver Partnership.

In this role, you’ll play a key part in restoring one of the UK’s most iconic lost species, working closely with project partners across the catchment. This is a unique opportunity to make a tangible difference for these incredible ecosystem engineers, while helping to rebuild ecological resilience and function at a truly landscape scale.

As part of the Humber-wide beaver project, you will work with partners, stakeholders and communities to secure the licences needed to enable future beaver reintroductions across this landscape.

To be successful, you will be organised and approachable, with the confidence to work with a wide range of stakeholders and communities. You will be able to communicate the project vision clearly, building support and helping to maximise the project’s impact. This role is hosted by Derbyshire Wildlife Trust and you will be part of a wider team project hosted by Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will lead the on-the-ground delivery of the project. You will:

• Work across the Humber Beaver Partnership to develop a strategic and pragmatic approach to securing licences for beaver reintroductions across the catchment
• Share best practice and learning across the partnership and with other beaver reintroduction projects across the country
• Support individual partners to develop robust licence applications for wild beaver releases
• Develop an action plan and report clearly on progress towards agreed targets
• Engage effectively with appropriate stakeholders and communities to build understanding and support

About you

This role might be right for you if:

• You have an understanding of species and ecology with some experience of working in the sector
• You work well with others across teams and are able to adapt to varied situations
• You have worked with partners and other stakeholders to deliver projects
• You have excellent attention to detail and be able to work to deadlines
• You have a passion for wildlife and are able to communicate this to a wide and varied audience
• You have knowledge (essential) or experience (desirable) of wildlife licencing for wild or captive release projects

We are happy to talk flexible working! This role is advertised at full time however we are open to discuss part time hours at a minimum of 30 hours per week.

This role is hybrid, with a balance of office and home working allowed. This role requires a large amount of field work so you can expect to be working away from the office regularly. Applicants should be easily able to access our office and other locations around the catchment.
