We are looking for a passionate candidate with a curious mind, interested in joining our Advanced Human Machine Teaming group in the Autonomous Systems discipline team.This is a technology focused role to shape the future of aerospace and defense technologies from concept definition through to demonstration. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in building and expanding our research dedicated to human-machine teaming with autonomous agents in the Air Traffic Management context. This position offers a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge research and development projects that will shape the future of aerospace and airspace management.Primary Responsibilities
- Lead the design, setup, and expansion of Human Machine Teaming research utilizing the Autonomous Systems experimentation environment.
- Develop and implement or apply advanced human-machine teaming algorithms and models for integration with autonomous aircraft, drones, and airspace management systems.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define experiment-oriented research objectives, develop project plans, and execute experimental protocols.
- Design and implement situational awareness and cognitive workload test methods.
- Conduct experimental studies to evaluate human-machine interaction and team performance ensuring robustness, safety, and reliability.
- Analyze and interpret experimental data, and communicate findings through technical reports, presentations, and peer-reviewed publications.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in human-machine teaming, autonomous systems, and aerospace technology.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers and researchers, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
- Engage with external partners, including government agencies, academic institutions, and industry stakeholders, to leverage resources and expertise.
Basic Qualifications
- Requires a PhD degree in a relevant field (e.g., Robotics, Computer Science, Cognitive Science, or Human Factors), or a similarly relevant Master’s degree with 2-4 years of industry experience.
- Strong background in aircraft or ATC system simulations/simulators.
- General proficiency with simulation tools and frameworks (e.g., X-Plane, Microsoft Flight Simulator, ROS/2, Unity/Unreal, etc.)
- Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, C++, or MATLAB.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Motivated self-starter with a strong enthusiasm to grow technologies, and business value propositions.
Preferred Qualifications may include
- Experience with any of the following
- Artificial intelligence (e.g., automated reasoning, machine learning)
- Simulation tools and platforms for human performance modelling and analysis.
- Background with neurophysiological sensors and human performance assessments (e.g., situational awareness and cognitive workload test methods).
- Brain Computer Interfacing through non-invasive methods.
- Familiarity with industry standards and initiatives related to human-machine teaming.
- Ability to champion and challenge the technical status quo.
