Staff Accountant – Roles and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Controller, the ideal candidate should possess strong analytical skills, excellent communication skills, be highly organized, and have exceptional problem-solving skills. This position will provide a wide variety of both complex and routine function services to the accounting department and all other departments throughout the mine.

Staff Accountant Duties:

  • Assist with preparation of monthly cost reports
  • Bank reconciliations
  • Analysis and filing of all provincial commodity tax returns (GST/ HST)
  • General Ledger reconciliations and analysis of all accounts
  • Support for the compilation and analysis of annual budgets and quarterly forecast assessments
  • Support for interim and annual external / internal financial audits
  • Monthly analysis and reporting of departmental budget versus actual expenditures
  • Fixed Asset reporting and analysis, including Capital Expenditures (CAPEX) and disposals.
  • Review of supplier payments and supporting documentation, ensuring strong internal controls are maintained
  • Assist with and perform month end closure
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Demonstrated experience in effective time management in a fast-paced environment
  • Team player that can work with various levels of the organization
  • Self-directed and capable of working within a continuously changing environment
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Ability to multi-task, priority effectively and meeting reporting deadlines

Education and Certification

  • Post-secondary degree in Accounting, Commerce, Finance, or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 – 5 years of relevant work experience

  • Accounting: 2 years (preferred)
