We have strong research involvement in multiple areas including correctional mental health, sexual behaviors, neurobiology of aggression, risk and secure recovery.Position Description
The Forensic Service at CAMH is seeking a full-time, permanent Staff Scientist for the Forensic Service. The successful candidate will lead measurement based care initiatives, quality improvement, evaluation and research related to the Model of Care in the Forensic Service. This role will include identifying evaluation objectives, and assessing the fidelity, impact, effectiveness and efficiency of the forensic Model of Care at CAMH using validated measures. The Staff Scientist will facilitate collaborative research on effective models of care in forensic mental health including establishing joint studies and comparative work and implement pilot programs with partners to innovate and refine these models, and standardize and disseminate best practices and evidence-based approaches in forensic mental health care.The Staff Scientist will engage with multiple stakeholders including patients, families, staff and legal/correctional partners, as well as enhance community engagement. The successful candidate will support capacity building and inter-professional education. They will collaborate with inpatient and outpatient Forensic clinical services to develop and implement evaluations within clinical services in the Forensic Service at CAMH. The Staff Scientist will report to the Chiefs of the Forensic and Psychology Divisions, and have their Scientific Appointment in the Institute for Mental Health Policy Research.The Staff Scientist will support ongoing and new measurement based care initiatives, and their responsibilities will include acting as a co-investigator or lead investigator for research activities, including securing new funding from external agencies. The Staff Scientist will also provide mentorship of staff and research trainees including undergraduate and graduate learners, and will also work in collaboration with other research teams within the Forensic Division and across CAMH to provide methodological expertise in their area of focus. The Staff Scientist will be responsible for all areas of research, including literature searches; development and execution of research studies; data management; research ethics; supporting research budgets; performing statistical analyses; preparation and execution of research reports, grants, papers, and other knowledge translation activities. They will also disseminate research results through presentations at academic meetings and conferences and communicate ideas to key decision makers. Participation in leadership advisory groups at CAMH and externally is expected. The successful candidate must be eligible for an academic appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or higher at the University of Toronto. - PhD in Clinical Psychology, Criminology or a related field
- Minimum of three years post-doctoral / post-graduate or equivalent experience (5 or more years of independent research experience preferred)
- The candidate must be registered, or eligible for registration, with the College of Psychologists of Ontario to practice Clinical Psychology with forensic populations, or have a doctorate degree in criminology or a related field
- Experience leading measurement based care initiatives is preferred
- Research and/or evaluation experience in applied clinical contexts is required, and experience working with a forensic mental health patient population is strongly preferred
- Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills and function well within a cooperative, collaborative working environment.
- Ability for self-directed learning/working, while working concurrently on multiple projects
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, seeking advice and support when needed
- Ability to work effectively in a wide range of settings with individuals from diverse backgrounds
- Demonstrated experience partnering and engaging with various stakeholder groups, including people with lived experience
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively to improve the quality of care for our clients in a research setting, within an inter-professional team are essential
- A proven track record and aptitude in scientific publishing
- Demonstrated experience developing and/or collaborating on successfully funded competitive grant proposals is preferred
- Experience supervising and overseeing staff and students
- Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and the academic community
