STATISTICS ASSISTANT

Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), Thematic Engagement, Special Procedures and Right to Development Division (TESPRDD), Methodology, Education and Training Section (METS), in Geneva, Switzerland. The incumbent reports to the Coordinator, METS Human Rights Indicators and Data Unit, under the overall guidance of the Chief of Section (METS) or designated staff.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Statistical Assistants will be responsible for the following duties: • Compiles, processes and manipulates data sets derived from a variety of sources. • Assembles and examines original statistical material to ensure accuracy, clarity and validity; makes appropriate adjustments. • Updates statistical series in established formats. Applies new data and derived statistics, enters data on survey reports, and provides information for publication. • Prepares charts, graphs and other outputs for reporting and presentation of various data. • Maintains relevant computerized databases. • Responds to internal/external requests on questions related to specific programme(s). • Assists in liaising with United Nations system organizations to obtain necessary statistical and other relevant information. • Prepares data sets upon request, responds to queries/requests and maintains/updates web pages. • Performs other duties as assigned.

Work Experience
At least seven years of experience in statistics, economics, demography, finance, accounting or related area is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to five (5) for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher. Experience in Power BI, and other relevant data visualization software is required. Experience in human rights data and analytics is desirable. Experience in Python or R is desirable. Experience in data extraction using Application Programming Interfaces is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another United Nations official language is an advantage.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which will be followed by competency-based interview.
