Because at NNL, anything is possible.The Strategy & Insight Senior Advisor role is to help shape and implement the future strategic direction of NNL through the provision of strategic guidance to the organisation, and through analysis and dissemination of market and policy intelligence and insight.The location for this role is flexible and can be based at Risley, Preston Stonehouse or Workington.Main Responsibilities for Strategy and Insight Senior Advisor:

  • Strategy:
  • Providing guidance and support to NNL (Focus Areas, Customer Executive, Business units etc) in defining and monitoring implementation of strategy, through for example the application of strategic tools and techniques.
  • Contribute to the development of business cases (NNL and HMG spending review submissions).
  • Contribute to the production of NNL’s strategic and business planning process as appropriate.
  • To develop and maintain connections across NNL to ensure alignment of strategy with our customer and internally funded activities (S&T, strategic investment).
  • Insight:
  • Keeping abreast of the changing nuclear landscape through routinely gathering, analysing and disseminating intelligence and insight from across the political, technical and nuclear market landscape through external research and internal engagement.
  • Leading the production of insight slides widely disseminated within NNL (including the monthly Insight Briefing, Policy Briefings, market intel reports etc).
  • Reviewing and appraisal of key external publications and provision of output in a digestible and succinct format.
  • General:
  • To contribute to continuous improvement of the S&I team’s ways of working and impact across and outside of NNL.
  • To work closely with other SCC teams, i.e. external affairs, communications, corporate affairs and international.
  • To support SCC risk management and 2nd line assurance activities.

Essential Criteria for Strategy and Insight Senior Advisor:

  • Demonstrable working in the nuclear sector, with good knowledge of the UK and global nuclear energy market / policy landscape.
  • Ability to distil and communicate information to a senior and sometimes non-technical audience (eg NNL’s Executive Leadership Team, NNL Board, Government stakeholders, the public) efficiently and effectively. This includes proficiency in written communication, production of high-quality visuals (eg slides), and oral communication.
  • Ability to apply strategic and lateral thinking, e.g. to be able to; Identify connections across aspects of NNL’s work and the external landscape; Identify trends in the external landscape; Apply strategic tools and techniques.
  • A proven self-starter with the ability to identify activities and ideas which benefit the S&I team and NNL – i.e. is able to work creatively and not reliant on tightly defined and directed tasks.
  • Comfortable working in a fast paced and sometimes ambiguous environment, with the ability to focus on outcomes driven by tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrates attention to detail and produces high-quality output.
  • Able to form partnerships across internal and external networks and work collaboratively in virtual multi-discipline teams.
  • Educated to degree or PhD level.
  • Ability to obtain SC level security clearance (this includes but is not limited to identity, employment, financial and criminal record checks plus 5 years’ worth of UK residency).

  • Qualifications related to Strategy desirable but not essential.
