It has a thriving undergraduate programme (available as Joint and Single Honours) as well as successful PGT programmes (MSc Historical Studies; MSc Diplomacy and International Relations). As an institution, Strathclyde has invested heavily in training for postgraduate researchers and we have a thriving PhD community, with many students working across disciplinary boundaries within the Department and wider University: in History this includes the new PhD History with Genealogical Studies. History at the University of Strathclyde holds existing expertise in areas including global history, history of health and medicine, oral history, migration, and Scottish, British and Irish history.The opportunityThrough the Charlotte Lythe bequest, we are investing in a number of Lythe Lectureships across Humanities to support the development of postgraduate teaching and research programmes and enhance our research excellence. The Department of Humanities wishes to appoint a Chancellor’s Fellow/ Lythe Lecturer with research expertise in the history of Race, Ethnicity and Migration. The successful candidate will be an early/mid-career scholar who will conduct research and undergraduate teaching in the History subject area.This post is suitable for an outstanding early/mid-career scholar whose research focuses on the history of race, ethnicity, and migration. Possible areas of research include, but are not limited to, Black History; Atlantic History; the Histories of Africa and the African Diaspora; History of Colonialism; African American History. We welcome interdisciplinary applicants who can create research synergies between areas across the Department/Faculty who might contribute to teaching on one or more of our existing postgraduate programmes (MSc Historical Studies; MSc Diplomacy and International Security) and support the development of new initiatives.Humanities is central to the University of Strathclyde’s position as a socially progressive, leading international technological University and we are keen to hear from applicants who can offer vision to connect history to research and teaching across the University. • Your Fellowship will normally be at lecturer level (exceptionally, at senior lecturer (Grade 9) (£58,596 – £65,814) where you have a strong track record in research leadership) for 5 years, with the expectation that you’ll meet our promotion criteria within that period and be transferred to senior lecturer (or, where you’ve been appointed as a senior lecturer, Reader) level.
