Come and lead Birkbeck’s Student Complaints, Conduct and Appeals team!The Student Complaints, Conduct and Appeals team offers a service to students seeking to make use of its policies around complaints, academic misconduct, student discipline or other relevant areas.The Student Complaints, Conduct and Appeals Manager leads the service on behalf of the College. You would be responsible for the development, management and implementation of these procedures to ensure that there is compliance with the College’s agreed approach. This includes ensuring that there is effective communication of the procedures to ensure a consistent understanding of and approach to their application across the College. The SCCA Manager works with senior colleagues to keep the underlying regulatory framework and portfolio of policies in this area under review to ensure continued compliance with our external obligations.This is an important and responsible role within the College and one where it is possible to make a difference to our work and our students’ experience of learning. You will also contribute to the management of the Academic Standards and Quality office, the wider Registry team and work with colleagues across the College. Our Student Complaints, Conduct and Appeals team are highly valued by colleagues for their positive attitudes, support and rigour. We are looking for someone hoping to make a difference by leading this area of work.You will know how to talk to and work with students and staff at all levels, including people who might sometimes be upset or distressed. You will be someone who conducts yourself with integrity and discretion and you will be able to find solutions to challenging problems. You’ll be able to set and follow procedures and enjoy improving what we do, and like training others (whether a senior professor or entry-level administrator) to do the same. We consider this to be a great opportunity for someone with experience of handling student complaints who would like to take on more responsibility and manage an area of work.The role is offered on a full-time basis (35 hours per week) or a part-time basis (28 hours per week), working flexibly in line with college policies.Remuneration
Grade 8 of the College’s London Pay Scale:

  • Full time salary: £49,745 rising to £58,554 per annum (1.0 FTE)
  • Part-time salary: £39,796 rising to £46,943 (0.8 FTE)
