Job Description:UE07 – £39,347 – £46,974 per annumSchool of Biological Sciences – Biology Teaching OrganisationFull time – 35 hours per weekOpen ended (Permanent)The School of Biological Sciences wishes to recruit a Student Support Manager to our Student Support Team. The Student Support Team is one of five teams working under the Head of Teaching and Student Administration, working towards an overarching aim that every student has an excellent experience at the University of Edinburgh – School of Biological Sciences.The Opportunity:Working in close collaboration with academic and professional services staff, you will be one of the key senior members of staff responsible for delivering student support services which are both excellent and responsive to change. The post holder has direct line management of School student support staff.We anticipate that the successful candidate will have a background in student support, will be knowledgeable about HE academic regulations/procedures, and will have good operational knowledge of student record systems and databases. Excellent interpersonal and IT skills are essential, including the ability to work effectively with student data sets.The School is situated in the James Clerk Maxwell Building within the King’s Buildings campus. We have approximately 950 students on our undergraduate programmes, spread across five-year groups, and we welcome approximately 150 MSc students every year.Your skills and attributes for success:

  • Degree or equivalent training plus significant related work experience and competency in an HE environment, demonstrating increasing knowledge and progression through roles.
  • Proven experience of both directly leading and managing teams.
  • Proven and detailed knowledge and experience of the current UK HE policy context in relation to student experience and welfare issues and key themes across the sector.
  • High level problem solving and analytical ability alongside well-developed communication and influencing skills.
  • Experience of managing change effectively, both in relation to internal projects and complex wider initiatives beyond the immediate area of work.
