About the RoleWe are seeking a dedicated, proactive and innovative Study Support Coach to join our dynamic team in the Public Services department. In this role, you will play a vital part in supporting students’ academic success and progression, ensuring they receive the necessary coaching and support to excel in their learning journey.Within the School of Public Services at Leeds City College, we offer a range of study programmes across levels 1 to 3 for over 390 learners.Our staff offer:
- Bespoke training opportunities for our staff to further develop skills for career development, including teacher training.
- Opportunities to work in collaboration with our partners, West Yorkshire Police, Yorkshire Ambulance Services, West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue and the armed forces.
- Take students on visits and experiences in the UK and around the world. Our Instagram page will allow you to see some of these opportunities.

- Level 1, Level 2 & Level 3 Diplomas for entry to the uniformed services.
- Level 1 Introduction to Community and Youth Services, a programme developed in partnership with CATCH, a leading third-sector organisation in the city.
- Bespoke 19+ cohort of learners looking to gain qualifications to enable a career change.
What You Will Do
- You will be responsible for a caseload of learners who require coaching and support as part of their planned learning programme.
- Facilitate group sessions exploring a wide range of Personal Social, Health & Economic topics.
- Support learners to track and monitor progress towards achievement using assessment grades.
- Communicate with parents and guardians of learners to support progression and building positive relationships
- Identify where learners require an intervention and convene small groups of learners to work on a specific topic related to their course.
- Identify barriers to learning and implement a range of strategies to overcome barriers.
- Develop and agree individual learning plans, identify SMART targets and set aspirational goals for learners, liaising with subject specialists and other academic and support staff.
- Facilitate and participate in a wide range of extracurricular activities with learners.
About You
- A passion and ability to inspire and motivate young people to become our future uniformed services and armed forces personnel.
- Recent teaching or instructing experience which demonstrates active learning and differentiated teaching styles to groups of students.
- Ability to be adaptable and flexible towards the requirements of different learner needs. No two days will ever be the same; embracing change is a key quality required to make the role successful.
