We are looking for a seasoned professional with a proven track record in systematic trading within the Energy sector. As the Book Lead, you will be responsible for expanding the book, as well as generating, testing, and deploying systematic trading strategies. You will lead a talented team of Systematic Developers, Technical Leads, and Traders, collaborating closely with the Quantitative Trading team. Your focus will be on driving P&L growth and ensuring the seamless and compliant operation of our trading infrastructure.Where you fit inThe Commodities Derivatives Trading (CDT) team is expanding its global footprint in the Systematic and Quantitative trading space. We leverage recent advancements in technology, AI, and quantitative analysis to develop profitable algorithmic and quantitative trading strategies across various tenors and commodities within the T&S trading remit.Reporting to the RTL Derivatives Trading Europe and collaborating with the Quantitative Trading Book Lead, the successful candidate will be responsible for orchestrating CDT’s systematic trading business. This includes developing and managing the strategic direction, driving P&L growth, and identifying and mitigating key risks associated with running the business.What’s the role?You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing Electronic Market Making (EMM) strategies at scale across multiple commodities and exchanges. Additionally, you will develop, implement, and manage new algorithmic execution strategies for use by CDT and the wider Trading and Supply business. You will have P&L accountability for the strategies and a focus on trading book growth targets. You will be able to demonstrate and articulate a clear understanding of the risks and positions being taken and clearly reporting these risks is a priority.You will also be responsible for Line of Defense 1 (LOD1) monitoring arrangements and overseeing the day-to-day operation of systematic platforms and strategies, ensuring optimal performance and profitability. It is crucial to observe and strictly comply with all internal and external regulatory guidelines, including MIFID II & RTS6, as well as the Shell control frameworks, business principles, and Shell Ethics & Compliance manual.As the Systematic Trading Book Lead, you will also be responsible for coaching and educating colleagues. You will liaise with and support the Quantitative Trading team and its development pipeline. Additionally, you will develop and manage junior colleagues, helping them to grow and develop in their roles.What we need from youThis role is aimed at experienced trading professionals with hands-on experience in systematic risk-taking. You should have exceptional knowledge of the systematic trading landscape and exchange connectivity, along with an understanding of programming languages and FIX protocols. An undergraduate degree in STEM, Finance, Economics, or related fields is required, with a PhD or Master’s degree in one of these fields desirable.You must possess exceptional numeracy skills, strong analytical capabilities, and attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to learn new things and drive change to deliver results is essential. Clear communication skills, both written and oral, are necessary for team management and reporting to senior leaders.Desirable Skills & Requirements

  • Market knowledge in energy and wider commodity markets.
  • Previous experience using Python and PowerBI, with C++ experience desirable
  • Experience in cross-commodity trading is desirable.
  • Previous experience working with an established systematic team and/or quantitative team is desirable.
  • Experience in managing teams and enjoys working with a diverse pool of co-workers.
