OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The Information and Communications Technology Management Unit (1MT) provides information and communications technology services to WHO/AFRO programmes at the Regional Office and to the 47 WHO country offices in the region. The unit is also responsible for the formulation, implementation and coordination of ICT strategies and policies in the region.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Under the direct supervision of the IT Infrastructure Services Team Leader, the Network System Specialist will assume the following responsibilities:

Responsible for the maintenance, configuration, administration and reliable operation of managed workstation environment, data centre server farm, cloud environment and storage areas. Planning, designing, installing and maintenance of server infrastructure. Upgrade and update infrastructure components and software, manage virtual servers, and integrate automation processes. Implement and ensure appropriate processes for data protection, backup, disaster recovery, and fail over procedures. Troubleshoot hardware and software errors by running diagnostics, documenting problems and resolutions, prioritizing problems, and assessing impact of issues Maintain security/cyber security processes and procedures within the IT infrastructure environment, including prompt remediation of discovered cyber security threats. Ensuring overall system and server up time, availability, reliability, and security.

Responsible for capacity, transition, storage planning, and database performance. Supervise and manage daily activities of the network system administration & security team. Develop and maintain documentation on security & network services policies, operations and procedures. Performs other duties as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Essential: University degree or equivalent training in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a related field. Microsoft Certification and specialization IT Security methods and engineering would be an advantage.
  • Desirable: HP Certification, ITIL, PRINCE2, COBIT, Qualys, Checkpoint, certification will be an asset.

Experience

  • Essential: At least 2 years of experience in the installation, administration and maintenance of server and workstation hardware and software, backup systems, security, and project management.
  • Desirable: Experience in project management as well as solid knowledge of technology trends for effective user and IT infrastructure support.

Skills

  • Strong knowledge of systems and networking software, hardware, and networking protocols. Practical knowledge and understanding of Microsoft Windows server and workstation operating systems, active directory, and associated components, end-point detection and response systems, backup software applications. Practical knowledge and understanding knowledge of virtualization, Hyper-V, VMW are, or equivalent. Knowledge in implementation and managing IT security/cyber security systems and tools. Good analytical and problem-solving skills be intuitive with a high sense of responsibility towards achieving results in a timely manner. Ability to work well in a team setting and under pressure.

Use of Language Skills

Essential:

  • Expert knowledge of English. Intermediate knowledge of French.

Desirable:

  • The above language requirements are interchangeable.
