The University of Bristol IT Services Division is embarking on an exciting period of change to deliver a world class IT Department.  We are seeking to recruit an experienced Application Support Analyst to provide support for, and improvements to, a range of HR and Finance applications.

This is a great opportunity to get involved in a team delivering solutions to support the University’s strategy. The successful applicant will help support business critical applications such as our ERP system to meet SLAs.  This involves working closely with other teams in IT/Projects, the business, and 3rd party suppliers.

You will work in a technical service management capacity supporting enterprise critical applications, in particular the ERP System (Agresso/Business World).  The day-to-day activities include incident management, solving complex technical problems, and service improvement.  The role also involves planning, delivering upgrades, writing technical documentation, and ensuring data integrations function as required.  There will be opportunities to work on projects to implement new services, and internally driven CI initiatives.

  • A good understanding of the ITIL framework.
  • The ability to provide solutions, or workarounds to technical problems often under pressure.
  • A team player with a willingness to learn, develop and challenge within a collaborative and supportive environment.
  • Experience Oracle or SQL Server databases; and a good in-depth knowledge of SQL is required to understand data models and diagnose problems with reports, and performance issues.
  • Experience in delivering technical support/development to an ERP system such as Agresso (Business World) is highly desirable.
  • Experience in delivering technical support/development to an ERP system such as Agresso (Business World) is highly desirable.
  • A broad technical knowledge of networking, databases, and security. And the willingness to learn new skills as required.
  • Excellent communication skills are required to work with the business, other IT teams, and 3rd party suppliers.
  • Experience of Windows Power Shell scripting or UNIX scripting.
  • The ability to interpret code in a language such as Java, or .NET is desirable.
  • Experience of providing technical support to Finance/HR applications is desirable.

Benefits include flexible working, annual leave – 40 days.  25 days to use at any time, plus 8 bank holidays and 7 University closure days and a generous pension scheme with over 20% employer contributions.
