NetHope is seeking an experienced, organized, and enthusiastic professional to provide facilitation support for the NetHope Tana River Resilience and Connectivity Project, an initiative to augment the skills and knowledge of at least 5 local nonprofits as well as selected community members.

Scope of Work
Project Scope:

The Trainer will ensure that each participant is presented with the developed curriculum in a manner that is accessible, challenging, and engaging. The trainer will make use of collaborative pedagogy and adult learning principles to maximize critical thinking, learning, and writing skills through interaction and interpersonal engagement. Prior to the in-person training, the Trainer will review the curriculum, providing any suggestions for improvement in terms of both content as well as methodology. The Trainer will report to the Training Manager and collaborate with the Curriculum Development Manager.

Deliverables:

  • Review training materials, engage in revision and feedback processes, and collaborate with NetHope staff in the development of training materials.
  • Facilitate two in-person training workshops in the Tana River region on implementing early warning systems and connectivity for climate resiliency. Implement global collaborative pedagogy to give learners autonomy, mastery and purpose. Create a safe environment and engage their experience and accumulated knowledge and increase it through participation, helping them solve their problems with relevant solutions.
  • Adhere to the training structure and lesson plans, ensuring delivery of all content in the course as intended by the curriculum designed.
  • Use effective questioning techniques to assess progress, elicit reactions, and confirm understanding.
  • Make content come alive through engagement and mastery of knowledge.
  • Be comfortable facilitating discussions, answering questions, and consulting on subject areas included within the curriculum.
  • Effectively navigate variability in audience skills, industry representation, class size, cross-cultural communication, learning styles and class modality.
  • Work closely with Training Manager to relay observations on the course content, approach, and logistics.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Experience and proficiency facilitating participatory, interactive training workshops, and/or facilitating adult education and peer learning.

  • Contextual understanding or experience of nonprofit programmes preferably with:
  • Programmes in least developed countries
  • Humanitarian aid and development, and/or environmental conservation
  • Community-based organizations
  • Precision, accuracy, attention to detail, and patience
  • Exceptional communication skills in English with the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and concisely.
  • Comfortable using technology effectively for communication, instruction, and/or coaching.
  • Proficiency in using modern workplace tools and processes (e.g., Microsoft Office, shared files, project management, video conferencing).
  • Proficiency engaging and communicating with people of different cultures and languages.

Education and Experience

  • Experience in facilitation, training, and education
  • Experience with collaborative pedagogy or learning and adult learning principles
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution preferred or equivalent work experience. Preference for degree in Adult Education, Instructional Design or another relevant field
  • Experience in facilitating training for digital skills preferred.
  • Experience translating theoretical concepts into easily understood language using real-life and contextual examples, case studies, and culturally appropriate analogies and metaphors

Project Timeline:

  • Preparation: August 12 – September 23, 2024
  • Trainings:
  • September 24-26, 2024
  • November 26-27, 2024

General Conditions:

  • This is a part-time contractor position with an expected workload of 20 hours per week from mid-August to mid-September. Some additional hours of preparation should be anticipated ahead of the second training November. The contractor will report to the Training Manager and work directly with the Curriculum Development Manager.
  • Travel to Tana River County will be required for in-person training delivery. Trainers may submit either actual expenses or per diems for meals and incidental expenses incurred for each day of on-site training commitment.
  • All contractors must pass an OFAC screening.
