Your role will involve creating a positive learning environment, building students’ confidence, and maintaining strong working relationships with colleagues, pupils and parents.The Geography DepartmentGeography is a vibrant and popular subject at GSAL. The department is a cohesive team of committed enthusiasts, consisting of eight specialist Geographers. We deploy a variety of engaging and varied teaching styles, so that our pupils feel stretched and inspired. The department is very well resourced, with seven modern specialist teaching rooms, each equipped with audio-visual equipment and interactive whiteboards.Geography is taken by all pupils up to Year 9. At GCSE it is an options subject and the numbers are high. In the Sixth Form there are currently five A level sets with over fifty pupils. Academic results are excellent and last year 72% passed A-level at grade A*or A. In recent years the numbers of pupils going on to study geography related degrees has flourished.The departmental schemes of work go beyond the requirements of both the National Curriculum and public examinations and seek to stretch and challenge pupils at all levels, often with an enquiry-based approach to the subject. We aim to teach a course that we feel appropriate to the particular needs of our pupils. There is plenty of opportunity for staff to incorporate their own areas of interest and expertise. Topicality is vital and our teaching reflects the current and interesting developments available to the subject.Curricular field work is a core part of our activities and is all departmentally run. There are trips and activities across all three key stages. At A level we have an established overseas residential field course which in recent years has been based in Switzerland.About GSALThe Grammar School at Leeds (GSAL) was awarded North Independent School of the Year 2024 and Independent Secondary School of the Decade in 2021.
