About usThe Department of Mathematics at UCL is an internationally renowned department within one of the world’s most prestigious universities. Since its beginning, mathematics at UCL has been enhanced by its many outstanding members of staff. Indeed, two of its students (and later staff) Professor Klaus Roth (1958) and Professor Alan Baker (1970) have gone on to win the Fields Medal. Another former member of staff Professor Tim Gowers won the Fields Medal in 1998 for work he did whilst at UCL.Since 2014 the department has grown considerably. There are approximately 80 academic members of whom 38 are full professors, and a number of Honorary members of staff, including Fellows of the Royal Society. The department also has approximately 30 Postdoctoral Research Fellows, around 108 PhD students and 50 MSc students. We also welcome a regular stream of distinguished visiting academics from home and abroad. The broad range of research interests is reflected in the large choice of courses available in the third and fourth years of the degree programmes, from spectral theory, groups and geometry to fluid mechanics and from mathematical ideas in biology to cosmology. Research funding in the department, including from EPSRC, ERC, NERC and the Leverhulme Trust, has grown significantly in recent years, more than doubling since 2014.ContextThe faculty provides a base for a number of research centres and institutes: these facilitate in-depth and interdisciplinary research through collaboration between experts within MAPS, and in related areas such as Engineering Sciences and Life Sciences. These include:

This role is working within the Professional Services Team in the Department of Mathematics, which sits within the MAPS Faculty. The department has internationally recognised research groups in pure and applied analysis; fluid mechanics; mathematical physics; geometry and topology; algebra, number theory and combinatorics; mathematical modelling in biology, finance, industry and society.About the roleMain Purpose of the jobThe Teaching & Learning Administrator will provide comprehensive and professional support for the Department’s MSc programmes: currently MSc in Financial Mathematics and MSc in Mathematical Modelling plus a new MSc in Mathematics starting in September 2026. The Teaching & Learning Administrator reports to the Departmental Manager, and also works closely with other departmental staff including, in particular, the PGT Programme Directors and Admissions Tutors.This role is a member of the Departmental Teaching and Learning Team, which includes 4 Teaching and Learning Administrators and two Senior Teaching and Learning Administrators. The role also includes engagement monitoring for PGT students.In conjunction with the above and the relevant academic staff, the post holder will provide specialist administration to the designated teaching programmes, ensuring effective procedures are documented and adopted for dealing with all aspects of its administration. This post will assist in achieving a high quality and timely service to current students, and staff relating to the designated courses/programmes and beyond.The post will provide support for all matters relating to the teaching and learning activities of MSc students from enquiry to completion, incorporating supporting committees and processes relating to assessment, student and course records.The post holder must be efficient, organised, and take great care in attention to detail. In addition, the post requires interaction with many people within and external to UCL thus a professional attitude, willingness to help and a positive outlook are required to adequately execute the duties outlined.About youA successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above including Mathematics and English Language, or equivalent, or having acquired equivalent vocational/commercial knowledge and experience of working this area. They will have experience of providing administration support, in a busy office, with a strong knowledge of higher/further education or a teaching and learning environment. They should also have experience of course/programme administration and be familiar with online learning environments.The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work confidently and diplomatically with people at all levels, from prospective students to senior colleagues in a teaching and learning context. They will have an excellent level of literacy, oral and written communication skills and an advanced skill level using Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel, and Outlook. They will need to work under pressure and deal with high volumes of processing and meet time critical schedules such as organising student-facing events, working with students, academics, and support staff to achieve agreed goals.A successful candidate will be willing and able to learn and use new systems quickly, including UCL specific systems such as Portico and be able to extract, collate and present information in complex report form to produce various examination reports. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic and self-motivated and committed to delivering excellent service to students and colleagues. They will have a flexible approach to work and a willingness to accept new challenges and change. The successful candidate will also have a commitment to personal and professional development and a commitment to the principles of EDI.An outstanding candidate will be educated to A level standard, or equivalent, or having acquired equivalent experience.
