Type: Full-time, PermanentAre you passionate about supporting children with a range of special educational needs (SEN) including autism, disabilities, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges?If so, we would love to hear from you. We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a team at a local specialist school. The school caters for children aged 4-18 (key stage preferences will be considered), who have a diverse range of learning needs, including autism, physical disabilities, SEMH needs, and challenging behaviours.In this role, you could be providing essential support to children across both primary and secondary sites, ensuring they are able to access their learning and fully engage with the curriculum. You will be supporting students with complex emotional, behavioural, and academic needs, and your role will include working closely with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to create an inclusive, nurturing, and structured environment for all students.Key Responsibilities:Provide tailored support to students with a variety of special educational needs, including autism, disabilities, SEMH needs, and challenging behaviour.Support students across both primary and secondary school sites, with a preference for placement on either site where possible.Work closely with teachers and other professionals to create and implement individualised education plans that address both academic and emotional needs.Assist students with social, emotional, and behavioural challenges, using de-escalation techniques and strategies to promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation.Facilitate the use of school facilities such as sensory rooms and hydrotherapy sessions, ensuring students are supported in these environments.Help students with daily routines such as transitions, mealtimes, and arrival and departure, ensuring their safety and comfort.Build positive relationships with students to encourage engagement and foster a sense of belonging.Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment, helping students develop social skills, self-confidence, and emotional resilience.The Ideal Candidate:Experience working with children or young people with special educational needs, including autism, disabilities, SEMH needs, or challenging behaviour, is desirable but not essential.A compassionate, patient, and proactive approach to supporting children with diverse needs, including those with emotional and behavioural challenges.Strong understanding of and interest in working with children with social, emotional, and mental health difficulties.Ability to manage challenging behaviour in a calm, positive, and professional manner, using de-escalation techniques where necessary.Flexibility to work across both primary and secondary sites (with preference for one site considered).Strong team collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively with teachers, therapists, and other support staff.A current enhanced Child DBS certificate on the Update Service, or a willingness to obtain one.Why Join Us?Competitive hourly rate of £13.75.The opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of children with a range of complex needs, including those with autism, disabilities, and SEMH challenges.Access to outstanding facilities, including sensory rooms and a hydro pool.A supportive and collaborative team that is committed to your professional development and growth.Training and development opportunities to enhance your skills and understanding of special educational needs, including SEMH strategies.A dynamic school environment where every day brings new opportunities to positively impact students’ lives.How to Apply:If you are dedicated to supporting children with a diverse range of special educational needs, including autism, disabilities, and SEMH challenges, we would love to hear from you. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
