Vacancy Overview
Part-time, permanent position. (FTE: 0.1) 4 hours per week.
The School of Creative Arts, Performance and Visual Cultures seeks to appoint a Teaching Fellow in History of Art (0.1 FTE) to lead and deliver our Year 2 Practical Art module. We are seeking an individual who has strong experience of teaching fine art in the Higher Education sector, including of organising summative exhibitions and assessing students’ work.
The Practical Art module consists of a weekly four-hour class, delivered over the course of 13 weeks, through which students are offered practical instruction and guided through the development of a personal project. The successful applicant will be experienced in offering instruction across a range of media and techniques as well as in supporting students, through tutorials and feedback, in the development of their sketchbooks and final exhibition pieces. You will work with a technician to deliver the classes and, with support from the wider School of Creative Arts, Performance and Visual Cultures, be responsible for overseeing the hanging of the module’s final exhibition and for working with History of Art staff and external examiners in assessing the students’ work.

Job Description
JOB PURPOSE
To provide leadership and delivery for History of Art’s Practical Art module, including the provision of practical instruction and tutorial guidance, and the mounting and assessment of the module’s summative exhibition.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Teaching and Learning Support
To lead and deliver the Year 2 History of Art BA module, Practical Art.
To work collaboratively with the supporting technician and academic staff in the delivery and assessment of the module.
To support the learning needs of our students across a range of activities (such as practical instruction, tutorials, feedback, assessment and so on).
To supervise the work of students, provide advice on the development of their individual projects and help them with learning problems.
To select appropriate assessment instruments and criteria, assess the work and progress of students by reference to the criteria and provide constructive feedback to students.
To participate in quality assurance mechanisms by contributing to regular module evaluation processes designed to review the operation of modules, responding to student feedback on modules, and suggesting changes aimed at improving module effectiveness.
To ensure adequate resourcing of the module, including maintaining a stock of supplies as needed for the delivery of practical workshops.
To ensure compliance with health and safety in all aspects of work and undertake risk assessments.
Administration and Other Activities
To undertake general duties related to course administration, such as attendance records and completion of assessment feedback forms.
