Job Description:College/School/Department: College of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences, School of Literatures, Languages & Cultures, Department of European Languages & Cultures.Full Time – 35 Hours Per weekSalary Grade: UE07 – £39,347 – £46,974Contract Type – Fixed Term for 10 Months From 01/09/2024.Number of Posts: 1Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the post of Teaching Fellow in Italian in the Department of European Languages and Cultures at the University of Edinburgh. This role is intended to cover aspects of teaching and administration during a colleague’s period of funded research leave. This post is full-time (35 hours per week), fixed-term for ten months, available from September 2024 to the end of June 2025.The successful candidate will hold a degree in a relevant area and show demonstrable success of teaching Italian language and Italophone literature or culture in a Higher Education context. They will have excellent written and verbal communication skills in Italian and English, with an ability to teach the Italian language at all levels. They will be expected to contribute to the administration of the subject area, including course organisation. The appointee may also be required to supervise Honours dissertations and support student learning through pastoral meetings, as well as contributing to the delivery of MSc programmes, depending on requirements during the appointment.The post holder will play an active role in the administrative tasks of the Section, Department and School, as appropriate, and deliver and convene courses for the Italian degree programmes, as well as Foundation courses in Italian language. They will also be required to design and teach modules on contemporary Italophone culture (including literature, cinema and/or other media).   • Degree in a relevant area.
  • Experience and demonstrable success in delivering effective university teaching in Italian language and Italophone culture, including the ability to teach Italian language at all levels.
  • Fluency and excellent oral and written communication skills in Italian and English.
  • Evidence of self-motivation and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Potential to design and lead supervisory activities for undergraduate students.
