Teaching Fellow/Lecturer in Wildlife Conservation / Ecology

Teaching Fellow/Lecturer in Wildlife Conservation / Ecology

Pathobiology & Population Sciences
Release Date: 12/05/2026
Reference: PPS-0108-26

We invite applications for a Teaching Fellow / Lecturer position in either Wildlife Conservation or Ecology in the Department of Pathobiology and Population Sciences (PPS). This is an exciting position within the Department and will appeal to those with interests in collaborative teaching and research.

You will join the Royal Veterinary College’s (RVC) Wildlife Health Group and play an important role in the delivery of our Biological Sciences (Wildlife Health Sciences, WHS) undergraduate course. Additionally, there will be opportunities to input into our long running MSc courses in Wild Animal Biology and Wild Animal Health. The RVC Wildlife Health Group provides an opportunity to grow this teaching in parallel to developing research capabilities within this subject area.

The WHS course is designed to produce biology graduates with training in animal health sciences and the specific application of these in the wildlife sector. The successful applicant will contribute towards both the teaching and module leadership within this course, with the support of the existing team. We are particularly interested in somebody who can demonstrate the integration of health into real-world contexts. Additional teaching responsibilities associated with this position will include supporting students both as a personal tutor and through offering and supervising research projects. We are looking for someone who will be confident in sharing their ideas and who is passionate about their subject. We are therefore seeking candidates with an advanced degree qualification and experience in either wildlife conservation or ecology. Candidates will ideally have some experience of teaching in a Higher Education environment.

The new lecturer will diversify our current research portfolio and be encouraged to develop their research interests, collaborating with internal and external colleagues. The Wildlife Health group is a recent development within the RVC, and we are looking to expand our research portfolio. A track record of research funding would be advantageous. The lectureship is being offered on a teaching track whereby we expect the successful candidate will split their time with a 70% weighting for teaching and 30% for research.

We offer a generous reward and benefits package including:

  • Competitive and attractive pension package
  • Generous 30 days annual leave (plus bank holidays and concessionary days)
  • Access to free in-house CPD
  • On site café and restaurant
  • Free membership to the Fitness and Wellbeing Centre located on site (gym, badminton, climbing wall, Zumba, yoga and pilates classes included)
  • Cycle to work scheme.
  • Free mini-bus service to and from Potters Bar station and Hawkshead Campus
  • A range of family friendly policies, including adoption, maternity and paternity pay and leave.

A detailed job description and person specification is provided in relation to this position. Prospective applicants are encouraged to contact Stuart Patterson (Senior Lecturer in Wild Animal Health) by email: [email protected].

Closing date: Friday 29th May 2026
