RINA is currently recruiting for a Team Manager Power System Studies to join its office in Manchester within the Power Division.Job PurposeThe Team Manager Power System Studies will lead and manage a team of engineering experts in power systems studies, ensuring high-quality project delivery, effective resource allocation, and collaboration across departments. Support business development, maintain financial targets, and support recruitment and training activities to achieve organizational goals.This position is hybrid.Key AccountabilitiesTeam Management
- Act as a technical and commercial role model for the team.
- Provide line management for engineering staff across multiple locations.
- Oversee timesheets, leave, smart-working approvals, appraisals, training, and salary reviews.
- Collaborate with heads of other departments to ensure effective resource allocation and project delivery.
- Support the business unit with recruitment and training activities.
- Support business development and sales activities to achieve financial targets.
Project & Quality Management:
- Ensure consistent, high-quality project deliverables.
- Manage projects within the team and support the business unit with backlog maintenance and timely invoicing.
Technical Skills
- Expertise in power system steady state and dynamic behaviour.
- Proficiency in generation compliance studies and power quality studies.
- Experience in circuit breaker switching transient and insulation coordination studies.
- Skilled in protection coordination and Arc Flash studies.
- Knowledge in techno-economic studies, basic system design, and equipment specification.
- Experience with HVDC systems and sub synchronous oscillations/interactions.
- Automation and scripting for power system analysis tools.
Desirable Skills
- Model development in software packages like PSCAD/EMTDC, DIgSILENT PowerFactory and PSSE.
- Grid connection application of generation and load connections to transmission and distribution systems
- Technical due diligence of power projects
- Design and specification of substation equipment
Software SkillsProficient in at least three of the following: PSCAD/EMTDC, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSSE, MATLAB/Simulink, ETAP, ERACS.Qualifications
- Bachelor, masters or PhD in electrical engineering or related field
- Minimum 10+ years of professional experience
- Experience with grid integration of renewables and corresponding grid codes
- Experience in working with grid system operators, power generators and developers, EPC contractors, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), power systems consulting companies etc
- Proven track record as specialist in steady-state, RMS and EMT-type power system analysis utilising industry standard simulation packages as given above or similar
- Knowledge of steady-state, RMS and EMT models of major power system components such as battery energy storage system (BESS), Solar PV, synchronous generators, HVDC interconnectors and wind turbine generators, transformers, transmission lines and cables, shunt reactors and capacitors.
Soft Skills
- Able to effectively communicate complex ideas in simple, clear and concise manner
- Demonstrated leadership ability in a team environment and able to train junior colleagues
- A self-starter and subject matter expert
- Excellent English communication skills (written and spoken) and ability to establish credibility with senior stakeholders.
- Able to support business and team leader by writing high quality bid and proposals (RFP), providing customer support and reviewing power systems model and reports
