Technical DirectorThis is a site-based role in Irvine, Scotland.As the Technical Director at Irvine, you will be responsible for leading the Site Technical function, including Product Owners, Process Engineering, Chemists, NPI and more as appropriate. You’ll ensure all Technical aspects of the Product Lifecycle on site, focusing on improving performance, delivery, capability and talent in order to help the site meet its ambitious goals. As part of the SLT (Site Leadership Team) you will also contribute to strategic planning and execution of critical projects aligned with the GSK 2025 strategy.This will include introduction of new strains and the potential of tech transfer of external products in house as well as driving the current process improvement strategy on our existing processes. In doing this role, you and your team will help to significantly shape the future of GSK Irvine, and the role it plays in the wider company.This role will require crucial partnerships with external teams and with Operations, Engineering, EHS and Quality. It focuses on the growth of the business and how best to deliver this growth. - Ownership of the core technical business processes for site: Product Lifecycle Management (Technical Risk Assessment, Product Control Strategies, Continued Process Verification, Process Robustness Assessment), Strains Development and Introduction, Change Control and Risk Management.
- Matrix leadership across Technical, Engineering, Operations, Quality, Logistics to support product control strategy translation to shop floor (batch instructions, standard work etc), utilising the principles of the GSK Production System (GPS).
- Technical governance across Product Lifecycle; Product Performance at Site, Supply Chain Quality Councils, Technical Review Board, Product Technical Review Team, Capital Expenditure, EHS, Site Impact Assessment and Change Control.
- Provide technical leadership for the rapid resolution of technical issues impacting supply through and product performance investigations through use of root cause analysis (RCA) tools and appropriate Corrective And Preventative Actions (CAPA), and escalate key site technical issues to the wider technical community for timely resolution.
- Accountable for on time and right first-time delivery of technical aspects of NPI and Value Engineering projects
- Ensure that Site Safety and Quality Compliance are championed as part of Leadership team

Required Qualifications and experience:
- Degree qualified in a Scientific or Engineering discipline
- Demonstrated experience in leadership role, leading technical teams and delivering technical solutions in Manufacturing or at R&D/Manufacturing Interface.
- Strong ability to manage and influence stakeholder at site and the wider business
- Experience of Project Management, particularly major technical and/or capital projects
- Thorough knowledge of GMP and Regulatory requirements
- Experience in use of data to drive tactical and strategic decision making
- Experience of Quality by Design and risk management approaches, including FMEA, RCA and technical risks assessments
Preferred Qualifications and experience:
- Masters or PHD qualification in a relevant discipline
- Holds an Engineering Chartership
- Proven capabilities in enabling and driving change, delivering solutions, developing people, and building relationships across multiple interfaces and in a matrix environment
- Previous experience in Operational, Engineering and Technical roles
- Prior experience in other business areas beneficial – such as supply chain or External Networks.
