JOB DESCRIPTION

The purpose of the USAID Egyptian Pioneers (UEP) activity is to build a more inclusive and capable workforce that elevates sectors critical to Egypt’s economic growth. Under this program Egyptian nationals will get scholarships and trainings in universities in Egypt as well as USA. For trainings and education in US universities, FHI 360 will serve as the organization responsible for US university selection and placement of the scholarship recipients in different programs. UEP is being implemented with close collaboration and cooperation of American University of Cairo which is the prime recipient of this award from USAID.

Job Summary:

Technical Requirements:

  • University Selection: In coordination with the Technical Lead, conduct research on graduate and undergraduate degree programs offered by universities related to priorities sectors identified by the Government of Egypt, and participate in the evaluation of university offerings.
  • Scholar Placement: In coordination with the Technical Lead, support scholar admissions and placement, provide information related to scholars, university program offerings and assist with coordination among scholars and universities as needed.
  • Scholar Orientation and Preparation: Support the Technical Lead to create informational materials for scholars that covers scholars’ responsibilities, academic and training expectations, and understanding of cultural and other aspects to their experience at a US university. This may also include supporting scholars and universities with the design and implementation of training programs.
  • Scholar Monitoring: Work with the program team and university partners to track and monitor the scholars’ performance and support scholars to manage their study abroad experience through frequent check in and troubleshooting support.
  • General technical support: Support technical implementation in accordance with FHI 360 and AUC guidelines and policies and USAID regulations.

Project/Program Reporting

  • Supports preparation of quarterly and annual reports and other documents, including editing of technical reports and documents.
  • Assist in M&E data collection, data analysis, help create surveys, data collection instruments and interviews as required.

Administrative/Operations Management:

  • Work with the project teams to coordinate the periodic pipeline review meetings and other project related meetings and ensure that minutes from meetings are regularly updated for use by the program.
  • Assist in arranging for scholars’ travel from Egypt to the USA and back, hotel/housing arrangements, and the availability of amenities for scholars.
  • Assist in disbursement of scholarship funds, housing payments, and other items by preparing the relevant paperwork as needed.
  • Keep up-to-date records of all payments to scholars with proper signatures and authorizations as needed.
  • Support UEP team in developing the sub-award packages.
  • Support the team in tracking and following up on work plans, budgets and deliverables.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Business Development:

  • Work with the project teams to conduct research on education systems, other partners, donors in countries where FHI 360 is preparing to submit proposals for educational assistance.
  • Assist in proposal’s writing, data collection and program design sessions.
  • Assist proposal teams in HR related activities for proposals.

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Broad based knowledge of FHI 360/USAID Policies a plus
  • Ability to develop scope of work and deliverables for partners, consultants, etc.
  • Excellent analytical, critical enquiry, writing as well as basic program management skills.
  • Sensitivity to cultural differences and understanding of the political and ethical issues on a broad array of program subjects.
  • Proven ability to coordinate an integrated/multisectoral development or humanitarian project.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with ability to represent FHI 360 in events such as on campus support to the scholars, as maybe assigned.
  • Ability to organize systems to monitor administrative and implementation results.
  • Perform detail-oriented work with a high level of accuracy.
  • Interact with diplomacy and tact and follow-up on requests in timely and efficient manner.
  • Use a computer to accurately and rapidly enter and retrieve data and information.
  • Excellent ability to work within and across teams and ensure cohesion in a multi-dimensional program portfolio.
  • Ability to plan and prioritize own work under tight deadlines, as well as to work on own initiative and as a member of a team.

Qualifications and requirements:

  • BS/BA in business administration, education, social studies as recognized equivalent with 2– 5 years of relevant experience with international development or humanitarian programs.
  • Demonstrated success in multicultural environments is a plus.

  • Works on problems of moderate scope that require analysis or interpretation of various factors.
  • Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.
  • Builds rapport with internal and external staff.
  • Decision may affect a work unit or area within a department.

Supervision Given/Received:

  • Has no supervisory responsibility.
  • Receives general instructions on routine work, detailed instructions on new assignments or projects.

Typical Physical Demands:

  • Typical office environment.
  • Ability to spend long hours looking at computer screen and doing repetitive work on a keyboard.
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift/move up to 5 lbs.

Technology to be Used:

  • Personal Computer/Laptop, Microsoft applications (i.e., Office 365, SharePoint, Skype/Zoom/Teams), cell phone/mobile technology, and standard office equipment.

The expected US Based hiring salary range for this role is listed below. Candidate FHI 360 pay ranges represent national averages that vary by geographic location. When determining an offer amount, FHI 360 factors in multiple considerations, including but not limited to: relevant years of experience and education possessed by the applicant, internal equity, business sector, and budget.

 

Base salary is only one component of our offer. FHI 360 contributes 12% of monthly base pay to a money purchase pension plan account. Additionally, all US based staff working full-time, which is calculated at 40 hours/week, receive 18 days of paid vacation per year, 12 sick days per year, and 11 holidays per year. Paid time off is reduced pro rata for employees working less than a full-time schedule.

 

US Based Hiring Salary Range: $48,000 – $72,000

International hiring ranges will differ based on location.
