Job summary

Applications are invited for a Technician to work in the Toxicology Unit within the Division of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism within the Department of Medicine at Imperial College London.

The unit carries out work on behalf of Coroners, handling approximately 3,000 cases per year. The data from the routine casework is used for the translational research carried out by the unit.

Duties and responsibilities

You will be carrying out technical duties such as manual solid-phase extraction and liquid-liquid extraction of post-mortem samples, analysis of bio-fluids for alcohol using headspace-gas chromatography, booking-in of samples and general laboratory duties.

Essential requirements

A minimum of three A-levels or equivalent, one of which must be chemistry, is required.

Key essential skills include:

  • Ability to follow protocols.
  • Ability to absorb and manage detailed information.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to impart and obtain information clearly and concisely verbally and in writing.

This post is full time and fixed term for 12 months. You will be based Charing Cross Campus (Hammersmith).
