UPEI is a small, dynamic university with a strong commitment to teaching and research excellence. The Biology Department (http://www.upei.ca/programsandcourses/biology) consists of thirteen professors, seven technical staff, and is the largest department in the Faculty of Science with approximately 630 undergraduate students and 25 graduate students. Our graduate students and faculty research interests are in the broad areas of cancer and stem cell biology, watershed and coastal habitat ecology, ecology of change, animal habitat fragmentation, heart and stroke physiology, conservation physiology, aquatic toxicology, developmental plant biology, as well as population genetics and evolution, among others.
The University is located on Epekwitk, part of the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaw nation. The main campus is in the provincial capital of Charlottetown, a bustling tourist destination that boasts the amenities of a much larger city, including excellent theatre, galleries, music, and dining possibilities (https://www.charlottetown.ca/). A province-wide hiking and biking trail runs right along the UPEI campus, and the National Park beaches and world-famous golf courses are a short drive away (https://www.tourismpei.com/). Charlottetown and its surrounding communities offer charming and affordable housing options, and a semi-rural lifestyle.

Applicants must be committed to excellence in teaching, with prior university teaching experience considered a strong asset, and should demonstrate potential for developing a research program, demonstrated holistically in various ways such as by publications, intellectual and creative endeavours, and scholarly service.
