Applicants must hold a PhD (conferred by the date of appointment) in Chemical and/or Biological Engineering or in a closely related engineering discipline. Applicants must either be registered, or eligible to register, as a professional engineer with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia. Registration is required within five years of appointment. The anticipated start date of the appointment is 1 January 2025.This position provides the opportunity to pursue a career in our Professor of Teaching path focused on excellence and innovation in teaching and educational leadership in the intellectually stimulating atmosphere of a top-tier Chemical and Biological Engineering department. The hire will receive a starting annual salary between $110,000 and $130,000 CAD depending on qualifications, and is expected to take a leadership role in the department in enhancing teaching and learning outcomes in our accredited Chemical and Biological Engineering undergraduate-degree program. Applicants with advanced training in and experience in the teaching of biochemical and biological engineering, biotechnology, and manufacturing of biologic products are encouraged to apply.The mandate of CHBE, which aligns with the strategic priorities of the UBC Faculty of Applied Science, includes three key responsibilities: (1) providing undergraduate and graduate-program trainees with excellent technical and leadership skills, integrity, and social responsibility through education; (2) creating internationally recognized and implemented technological advances, including fully sustainable solutions to address global needs and challenges through field-defining research; and (3) promoting an inclusive, safe, collaborative, and respectful community. This mission is guided at all levels by our values of collegiality, excellence, innovation, and integrity.The successful hire will teach a range of courses within our three accredited undergraduate degree programs: chemical process engineering, chemical and biological engineering, and environmental engineering (joint with the UBC Department of Civil Engineering). Desire and ability to teach and provide leadership to our undergraduate and graduate biochemical engineering and biotechnology laboratory courses is expected, including development of new teaching paradigms that enhance experiential engineering training. The successful hire will also be expected to be highly engaged in educational leadership activities, including curriculum development and implementation of innovative teaching practices that enhance learning outcomes and career opportunities for engineering students as well as provide service to the University and broader community. Applicants must have demonstrated or possess clear potential and interest in achieving excellence in teaching and learning, in educational leadership and in providing broader service to the University and society.
