TENURE TRACK ASSISTANT TEACHING PROFESSOR IN PHYSICS

COMPETITION: #24-19
DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS
TENURE TRACK ASSISTANT TEACHING PROFESSOR IN PHYSICS

The University of New Brunswick’s Physics Department invites applicants for a tenure-track, teaching-stream faculty position. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor starting July 01, 2025, or as soon thereafter as possible. The closing date for the complete application package is December 17, 2024. This position is subject to final budgetary approval.
UNB’s Physics Department offers students a variety of options for their physics studies: physics honours, physics major, applied physics, physics co-op, and interdepartmental programs involving the other departments in the Faculty of Science. In addition, we recently introduced an Engineering Physics program, the only such program east of Québec, with the first students starting to work toward their degree. This program has two concentrations: optical engineering and space systems engineering.

As a teaching-stream faculty member, our new colleagues will spend most of their time directly engaged in teaching and undergraduate student supervision. Teaching duties can include courses at all levels of undergraduate programs, both in physics and in engineering physics. In the UNB Physics Department, faculty members frequently rotate through courses to maintain a fresh approach to teaching. We therefore expect that the courses assigned to our new colleague will be wide-ranging rather than tied to specific topics. We are looking for someone capable of teaching any courses at the 1st and 2nd year level, as well as some courses in the upper years, ideally some of the courses being developed specifically for the Engineering Physics program.
To be considered for this position, you must have completed an earned doctorate in Physics, Engineering Physics, or a closely related field. Having a professional engineering designation (P.Eng.) would be a strong asset. In its absence, the candidate must commit to undertaking the process of obtaining their P. Eng. upon beginning the position and must obtain the P. Eng designation within three years of appointment.

Applications must include a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, a teaching dossier, and the names of three academic references. A complete teaching dossier includes, at a minimum, the following components: 1) a summary of responsibilities and roles related to previous teaching experience and the context of that teaching experience, 2) a statement of teaching philosophy, 3) a section in which the author shares their strategies, methodologies, and selected materials to provide evidence of effective teaching, and 4) a section about professional learning and development. Applications should be sent to the Chair of the Physics Department at:

The salary range for this position is defined in the Association of University of New Brunswick Teachers (AUNBT) 2022-2025 Collective Agreement section 36B.

Short-listed candidates will be required to provide satisfactory proof of credentials including appropriately certified translations of credentials into English, as applicable.
The University of New Brunswick is committed to employment equity and fostering diversity within our community and developing an inclusive workplace that reflects the richness of the broader community that we serve. The University welcomes and encourages applications from all qualified individuals who will help us achieve our goals, including women, visible minorities, Aboriginal persons, persons with disabilities, persons of any sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.
