Located in downtown Toronto, the largest and most culturally diverse city in Canada, and on the territory of the Anishinaabeg, Haudenosaunee and the Wendat Peoples, the School of Graphic Communications Management (GCM) in The Creative School at Toronto Metropolitan University [www.torontomu.ca] (formerly Ryerson University) invites applications for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor effective July 1, 2025 subject to final budgetary approval.

The successful candidate will engage in a combination of teaching, scholarly, research or creative (SRC) activity and service duties while maintaining an inclusive, equitable, and collegial work environment across all activities. Teaching duties will entail teaching at the undergraduate level, along with possible opportunities to teach and supervise graduate students across programs in The Creative School. The successful candidate will pursue a strong, innovative program of SRC activity that is externally funded and that produces cutting-edge, high quality results.

Candidates must hold a Masters degree related to packaging, graphic communications, or another subject area closely related to the field. A PhD is preferred. Industry or post-doc experience is also valued at the School of Graphic Communications Management.

The successful candidate must present evidence of expertise and a track record of research in emerging fields, including but not limited to the following areas:

packaging sustainability, design, development, and prototyping
consumer research related to graphic communications and/or packaging and branding
premedia workflows and automation for graphic communications and/or packaging
emerging technologies and their applications in graphic communications and/or packaging
education, pedagogy, and educational leadership as they relate to the above areas

In addition, the successful candidate must present evidence of:

a demonstrated enthusiasm and passion for teaching excellence at the university level;
strong emerging SRC activity that is current, innovative, and impactful;
commitment to our values of equity, diversity, and inclusion as it pertains to service, teaching, and scholarly research or creative activities, including a demonstrated ability to make learning accessible and inclusive for a diverse student population; and
ability and willingness to contribute to the life of the School of Graphic Communications Management and the University through collegial service.

a statement on past, current and/or planned contributions to EDI such as, but not limited to, research/ teaching that incorporates a focus on underrepresented groups; inclusive pedagogies; public engagement activities that reach out to marginalized communities; mentoring students from underrepresented groups (one page).
