We recognize the land and waters that have inspired our work and offer gratitude to those Indigenous peoples on whose territory we work, live and play.About the roleCanadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular full-time Testing Support Associate – Blood Group Serology to join our dynamic Testing team.The Testing team is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services by providing process support and subject matter expertise to Testing sites in resolving issues. In this role you will provide process support and subject matter expertise to Testing sites in resolving issues. You will also establish, implement, monitor and evaluate results from relevant key performance indicators (KPI) and ensure excellent customer service is provided to both internal and external customers. You will be required to provide subject matter expertise that will assist in planning and implementation of new projects or initiatives.Formula for success

  • As a subject matter expert, provides process support to the Testing sites by developing, preparing, reviewing and maintaining Work Instructions (WI), and training materials to ensure consistency and standardization.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of training material and educational sessions, if required, in collaboration with the site Managers to ensure that the training needs of Testing staff are identified and standardized.
  • Participates in new projects or initiatives for Testing by providing input and assistance in the development of project proposals/plans, business cases, project related validation scripts, and decision documents, and by providing detailed analysis and other input into the planning and implementation of strategic initiatives in Testing to increase safety, cost effectiveness, standardization, and efficiency.
  • May liaise with other CBS departments (QA/RA, IT, Medical Services, Document Control, and Change Review Boards) as required.
  • As a subject matter expert, provides technical support and information to the Testing sites and Head Office departments to facilitate problem solving and development of resolution of issues or trends pertaining to methodologies or computer applications, manual and automated testing procedures, equipment or reagents.
  • Advises technical and professional staff by co-coordinating regular meetings with Testing or Head Office site representation and/or vendors to resolve current and outstanding issues in the departments, while ensuring that recommendations and decisions are documented and maintained.
  • Assists and participates in the continuous quality improvement activities for the Testing sites by establishing and implementing staff competencies to monitor site performance, and by continuously reviewing all regulatory standards, preparing gap analysis reports to advise senior management of standard changes and assisting them in ensuring compliance.
  • Tracks, trends, and monitors the quality control program as well as test performance by developing KPIs and by preparing monthly reports that may recommend corrective measures.
  • Participates in the process of appropriate evaluation of test kits, reagents, equipment and/or software by developing user requirements, specifications, selection criteria and decision matrices to ensure the selection of the appropriate product.
  • Assists in the selection process by organizing parallel testing and reviewing data, by preparing reports to submit for approval, and by developing and implementing evaluation protocols.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Desired education and skills

  • Post-secondary level education in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience and in-depth knowledge and understanding of Blood Group Serology AB ID Reference Laboratory, Donor Testing or Diagnostic Services laboratory is required.
  • An appropriate Provincial Medical Laboratory Technologist License is required.
  • Laboratory Science or Advanced Registered Technologist or equivalent experience is preferred.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and planning skills required.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English are essential for presentation to all levels of employees.
  • Computer skills are essential with demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Software Programs including Access, Excel, Power Point, and Word applications.
  • Effective time management, written and verbal skills.
  • Ability to be a team member.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing education.
  • Ability to travel if required.

What you can expect

  • This role will work in a hybrid environment with requirements to be onsite at Canadian Blood Services location 40% of the time/days of the week
  • Shift/hours – Monday to Friday 7am to 3pm or 8am to 4pm or 9am to 5pm. Occasional evenings and weekends may be required
  • Travel requirements – occasional travel required within Canada
  • Physical requirements – ability to lift weight up to 10 kg (22 lbs.)
