Job Description:College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine/Royal (Dick School of Veterinary Studies/Division of Equine SciencesGrade 9 £61,198 – £75,498 plus additional Market Pay Supplement which is reviewed annually.Contract type – Open Ended – PermanentFull time – 35 Hours per weekClinicians will contribute to the on-call rotaWe are looking for an experienced equine clinician with expertise in sports medicine to join our clinical team and take a leading role in the provision and development of the sports medicine service for our equine hospital and practice.The Opportunity:This is a unique opportunity to lead and grow the discipline of equine sports medicine within a top-ranking UK veterinary school, working within a talented and dedicated equine team. The post holder will work in our highly-equipped equine hospital and will significantly develop the clinical caseload, taking responsibility for cases at referral level and all aspects of clinical decision making. Beyond the standard medical and surgical caseload, the hospital has well-developed cardiology, respiratory, orthopaedic, diagnostic imaging and behavioural medicine services, with significant clinical expertise in each area; we are now looking for a person to drive an integrated performance driven sports medicine service. This person will also work with our behavioural medicine team to develop a better understanding of the relationship between pain and behavioural changes and to develop a more comprehensive and formulated approach to the investigation of such cases.They will be involved in teaching and practical training of veterinary undergraduates, and postgraduate clinical scholars (residents) and undertake clinical research, enhancing the professional reputation of the equine service and leading colleagues in the development of appropriate research output. In addition, the post holder will contribute to the delivery of services, promotion of equine welfare and support the equine industry in remote and rural parts of Scotland through the division of general practice.Your skills and attributes for success:

  • A Veterinary Degree registered with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons as a practising member of the profession.
  • Excellent general equine sports medicine skills, including expertise and interest in orthopaedics and diagnostic imaging.
  • An ambition to further develop a better understanding of the relationship between orthopaedic pain and behaviour and the drive to formulate improved diagnostic and more holistic therapeutic approaches.
  • Post-graduate experience and further qualification in equine sports medicine, preferably ECVSMR/ACVSMR. However, ECVS/ACVS Diploma-holders with proven sports medicine track record are very much encouraged to apply.
  • Experience in teaching, learning and assessment in a veterinary school setting
  • Demonstrable clinical research output, ideally at post-doctoral level.
  • Full valid UK driving licence, as there is a requirement to travel to the hospital out of hours to respond to emergency situations when public transport is unavailable. (No more than 6 penalty points)
  • Desirable: Higher degree (Masters /PhD) in a relevant discipline
