Top quark physics beyond the Standard Model at the ATLAS detector

University of Birmingham

About the Project

This PhD project involves searching for physics beyond the Standard Model, using top quark data recorded by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN, Geneva. The Birmingham ATLAS group has been involved in many measurements of top quark properties at the LHC, including interpretations in terms of new physics contributions. This studentship will use the Run 2 and Run 3 datasets, recorded in 2015-2018 and 2022-2025, to make precise measurements of top quark properties and to search for indications of new processes beyond the Standard Model of particle physics.

The project also involves contributing to the group’s technical responsibilities for the maintenance and development of the ATLAS experiment, including upgrades to the detector or the trigger system.

Some travel to CERN will be necessary, with the possibility of an extended stay at CERN during the studentship.
