Australia Assists
Australia Assists is an Australian Government program that deploys skilled humanitarian specialists to support multilateral agencies, governments, civil society and communities to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters and conflict. Australia Assists aims to save lives, alleviate suffering, maintain human dignity in the wake of crises, and strengthen preparedness for future emergencies.
Tetra Tech International Development manage the Australia Assists program on behalf of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).
Key responsibilities
- Develop and implement training programs for the rapid response team to ensure they are well-prepared for deployment.
- Design and deliver onboarding training for new employees to familiarise them with program goals, processes, and expectations.
- Create and manage capacity development training programs for host organisations, enhancing their ability to respond to humanitarian needs.
- Collaborate with the Capacity Strengthening Manager to identify training needs and develop relevant training materials.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs through feedback, assessments, and monitoring outcomes, making adjustments as necessary.
- Facilitate workshops, seminars, and other training events to support continuous learning and professional development.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive training calendar, ensuring timely delivery of all training activities.
- Maintain accurate records of training activities, including participant attendance, assessment results, and feedback.
- Coordinate with external trainers and consultants as needed to deliver specialised training programs.
- Support the development of a knowledge hub by creating training content and sharing best practices and lessons learned.
Selection criteria
- Qualifications: Tertiary qualifications in education, training, human resources, international development, or a related field.
- Experience: Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering training programs, preferably in a humanitarian or development context. Proven ability to design and implement capacity development training for diverse audiences. Experience in onboarding new employees and developing comprehensive training materials. Strong facilitation skills and experience in conducting workshops and seminars.
- Knowledge and Skills: High level of knowledge in training methodologies, adult learning principles, and instructional design. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and motivate participants. Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple training programs simultaneously. Proficiency in using training software and tools, including e-learning platforms. Understanding of cross-cutting priorities such as gender equality, diversity and social inclusion (GEDSI), climate change, and localisation, and the ability to integrate these into training programs.
- Personal Attributes: A commitment to continuous learning and professional development. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt training programs to meet emerging needs. High level of cultural sensitivity and the ability to work effectively with diverse groups.
