Be part of an expanding busy call center team made up of RNs, RCPs, and Communication Specialists. Use your clinical expertise away from the bedside while fielding incoming calls from providers to facilitate consults with Children’s specialists, arrange for transport of pediatric and Neonate patients, or arrange a direct admission. This role enables the candidate to use their critical thinking, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills while offering great communication and customer service to our internal and external customers. Efficient use of phone and computer along with experience using Epic is a plus. The Consult Center is part of the Transport Team Department and you will work with a great group of team mates who you have the opportunity to support with intake of transport calls, dispatching the team, arranging for mode of transport (ambulance, helicopter, fixed wing plane) and working collaboratively with our critical care and NICU providers who function in the medical control role for the team.

As a team member in the Physician/Provider Referral Call Center, triages calls from referring physicians and appropriately routes to subspecialist, attending physicians and/or the appropriate department(s) throughout the organization.

Assists in the direct admission process when requested by a referring physician. Is able to facilitate the transport process by routing calls to Call Center Clinician as appropriate. This may include a Transport Nurse Clinician or Transport RCP. Notifies admitting and arranges for mode of transport once that has been determined. Provides excellent customer service in all duties related to the Physician Referral Call Center.

  • Prefers prior knowledge acquired through work experience in a medical field such as EMT, Paramedic, Medical Assistant (MA), Health Unit Coordinator or nursing. Appropriate credential required. Requires at least High school education or equivalent.
  • Requires at least two (2) years of relevant work experience in a healthcare role.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • CPR BLS preferred.
  • Maintains ability to rotate shifts and/or work flexible hours to meet departmental needs.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills necessary to communicate with all levels of referring organizations to convey information manage difficult callers and represent the organization favorably.
  • Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail especially during stressful events, emergencies, and angry or upset callers.
  • Demonstrates analytical skills necessary to resolve complex calls.
  • Demonstrates ability to work independently and utilize time management, prioritization and multi-tasking skills.

This is a CASUAL – Night shift role and will require at least 1 – 12 hour shift per week and also include a rotation of every 3rd weekend (Sat & Sun). A holiday rotation will also apply.

  • This is an ON-SITE IN-Office role – based at main campus – Wauwatosa location.
