The Trust is recruiting to a Trust Specialist Registrar post in Rheumatology for a fixed term of 12 months. The post will be based at Northwick Park Hospital only and it would be an ideal starting point for someone looking to apply for SpR training schemes in Rheumatology.Rheumatology GIM wards are Jonson and Dryden Ward at Northwick Park with outliers on Gray Ward, with 3 consultants, each caring for 15-20 patients. Inpatient care is supported by 2 ward-based registrars, 7 core medical trainees or GP trainees and 2 foundation year 1 doctors. The allocated ward consultant will undertake three morning ward rounds a week and support a board round on the other two days.There are currently 7 consultants in rheumatology and general medicine to whom the post holder will be responsible and this team will be expanding to 8 by the end of the year. All have a particular interest in the interface of general medicine in rheumatology, and two of them are responsible for running a nationally commissioned service for connective tissue diseases.Main duties of the jobThe post holder will work Monday to Friday, 0900-1700 and is expected to cover the following duties. These are subject to change in line with service development.Ward DutiesThe postholder will work as a member of the Rheumatology team with F1 trainees, SHOs, ST registrars and the consultant staff to ensure high quality care of rheumatology and medical patients. The rheumatology team is responsible for care of patients on Jonson Ward, Dryden ward and outlying patients on Gray ward. The rheumatology team provide rheumatological opinions and urgent care to the Ambulatory Emergency Care Unit.Outpatient Dutiesthe post holder will contribute to rheumatology clinics in a predominantly supernumerary manner. Job responsibilitiesAudit & Clinical GovernancePost holder will be expected to play a role in audit, including participation in national audit programmes. The post holder will be expected to manage the day to day running of the rheumatology juniors rota under direct supervision of one of the consultants, thereby gaining experience in management. Education Qualifications
Essential

  • MBBS (or equivalent)
  • Full GMC registration
  • Part 2 MRCP UK (or equivalent), at expected start date of post

Desirable

  • MRCP (PACES)
  • MD, PhD or equivalent

Knowledge and Experience
Essential

  • Successful completion of Core Medical Training (or equivalent)

Desirable

  • Some evidence of involvement in audit and/or presentations
  • Clinical experience in Rheumatology

Teaching
Essential

  • Experience of teaching and training undergraduates, postgraduates and junior medical staff

Desirable

  • Evidence of ongoing interest and achievement in research
