Tutor in Quantitative MethodsJob PurposeTo contribute to the delivery of an excellent student experience by undertaking a range of teaching, assessment and administrative duties, particularly in relation teaching in quantitative methods courses across the School of Social and Political Sciences. These posts will contribute to learning and teaching objectives in the School of Social and Political Sciences.Main Duties and Responsibilities1. Contribute to the planning, organisation and delivery of teaching.2. Deliver a range of teaching and assessment activities directed towards the delivery of subjects at UG and PGT levels.3. Participate in a range of course administration duties, within required timescales, including effective communication of information, marking, assessment and timely constructive feedback.4. Assist with the development of appropriate teaching materials ensuring content and methods of delivery meet determined learning objectives.5. Contribute to the effective use of learning technologies to support and enhance course delivery, course organisation, feedback and assessment. This may involve blended and/or online provision including the use of Moodle and other ICT materials.6. Apply specialist knowledge to teaching that best meet the needs of individuals and groups of learners, ensuring an inclusive and evidence-based approach that promotes student participation and learning outcome attainment.7. Participate in the full assessment process using a variety of methods and techniques, including oral assessment, and provide effective, timely and appropriate feedback to students that supports their learning.8. Assist with the supervision of student projects, dissertations, and any practical work, advising on skills, methods and techniques to assist the transfer of knowledge, and respond appropriately to the diverse range of learner support/ needs.9. Facilitate student engagement and pastoral support and contribute towards a positive student experience10. Engage in continuing professional development activities as appropriate, including PgCap.11. Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the Head of School.12. To contribute to the enhancement of the University’s international profile in line with the University’s Strategic Plan, Inspiring People Changing The World.Knowledge and QualificationsEssentialA1 SCQF Level 10 [Honours degree] in a relevant subject or a cognate discipline, or equivalent.A2 PhD in a relevant subject or a cognate discipline, or working towards one using quantitative methodsA3 Professional teaching qualification or working towards one.A4 Specialist knowledge of introductory social science statistics including Generalised Linear Models.A5 Knowledge of teaching methods and techniques for quantitative social science research methods.DesirableB1 Knowledge of advanced quantitative methods, social network analysis, text analysis, Bayesian modelling, longitudinal analysis, causal inference, agent-based modelling, Machine Learning, or similar.SkillsEssential:C1 Excellent communication skills both oral and written, specifically the ability to communicate material of a specialist or technical nature in quantitative social science.DesirableD1 Ability to use R for data management, analysis, and communication; evidenced through research output and/or teaching and/or contributions to software packages.D2 Ability to communicate quantitative social science concepts to a diverse group of learners (e.g., from a variety of programmes, with differing levels of prior knowledge, and with degrees from different higher education systems .D3 Ability to work independently and as part of a teamD4 Ability to accept collegiate responsibilities and act accordinglyExperienceEssentialE1 Relevant administrative experience [e.g. student support, course administration etc.DesirableF1 1-2 years relevant experience of teaching.Terms and ConditionsSalary will be Grade 6, £32,332 – £36,024 per annum.This post is full time and open ended.As part of Team UofG you will be a member of a world changing, inclusive community, which values ambition, excellence, integrity and curiosity.The University of Glasgow has a responsibility to ensure that all employees are eligible to live and work in the UK.
