UBC Health reports to the Office of the Vice-President, Health (OVPH) and serves as a resource to all health disciplines at UBC Vancouver (UBCV) and UBC Okanagan (UBCO). UBC Health has a mandate to enable and enhance interprofessional and collaborative health education and research to train people, develop knowledge, and shape policy, seeking to address inequities and improve the systems that produce health. It advances these aims by promoting and facilitating equitable collaborations across disciplines and faculties, as well as with communities, institutions, and government organizations around the province.The UBC Okanagan Health Partnership Manager is a 3-year position (with an opportunity for renewal upon evaluation) that will enhance collaborations in health across UBCO and facilitate connections between UBCV and UBCO. Reporting to the Office of the Provost and Vice-President, Academic and to the Office of the Vice-President, Health, this position will lead the coordination of strategic collaborative, interprofessional education and research initiatives; support existing initiatives; and identify shared priorities and opportunities for collaboration. More specifically, this position will conduct a campus-wide consultation and support development of a campus-wide health strategy at UBCO that will inform faculty recruitment, program development, community partnerships and the strategic integration of health-related research and teaching across Faculties and campuses.Organizational StatusThis position will be located in Kelowna, with direct reporting to the Director, Academic Strategic Initiatives in the Provost’s Office at UBCO. This position will also have functional reporting to the UBC Health Managing Director located at UBCV. The Partnership Manager will be expected to travel to Vancouver at least twice each year.Work PerformedThis position is responsible for promoting and facilitating health-related initiatives and collaborations across disciplines and Faculties at UBCO, with partners at UBCV, as well as with communities, institutions, and government organizations in the region.1. Support development of a campus-wide strategy that will inform health-related research and teaching across Faculties at UBCO:Conduct a landscape analysis and map UBCO’s current health-related activities and strengths.Establish structures and processes to facilitate collaboration across the UBCO Faculties, Departments, and Schools.Consult and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including community partners, to identify strategic opportunities and priorities; plan, develop, and manage these projects.Map strategic partnerships in the Interior/Central Okanagan, and support local partnership development with Indigenous communities, partner institutions, and government organizations (e.g., Interior Health Authority).2. Advance key strategic activities and facilitate the development, integration and delivery of UBC Health education, research, and systems initiatives at UBCO.Work with key leaders at UBCO to identify shared priorities, opportunities for program alignment, and areas of collaboration across UBCO and across campuses.Lead the development and execution of a regional UBC Health action plan focused on collaborative health education, practice, and research.Conceptualize and implement processes and structures, building on existing UBC Health processes and structures, to better support and align the mandate of UBC Health in the Okanagan.Contribute to program planning, and make recommendations regarding resources required to execute the action plan.3. Lead the achievement of targets and planned objectives collaboratively established by partners across Faculties and campuses.Develop program assessment and evaluation tools.Monitor ongoing progress against planned objectives and take corrective action as necessary to ensure results are achieved.Prepare, monitor, and report regularly on work plan timelines, deliverables and other relevant reporting items.Develop plans, briefings, and presentations, and coordinate meetings.Prepare and monitor program budgets.Assist in the development of promotional strategies for program areas.Participate in committee meetings, chair and organize as required.Perform other related duties as required.Consequences of Error/JudgementThis position is required to exercise professional judgment and initiative while undertaking all responsibilities. Inappropriate actions, errors in performance or indiscretions in judgment can have a negative impact on the university and may result in legal action, negative public relations, financial repercussions, and loss of credibility in the unit’s ability to demonstrate leadership. Establishing effective working relationships across both campuses while working with multiple different units is essential for the success of this position. Inability to establish and foster effective working relationships across both campuses may affect the integrity of partnerships and the successful and timely completion of collaborative initiatives.Supervision ReceivedThis position reports jointly to the Director, Academic Strategic Initiatives in the Office of the Provost and Vice-President, Academic at UBCO and the UBC Health Managing Director situated at UBCV. For strategic decisions, the incumbent will take advice from UBCO leadership, as well as UBC Health leadership, and will work in close collaboration with faculty and staff members from various academic units, and community partners internal and external to UBCV and UBCO.This position exercises considerable independent judgement and initiative in the planning and implementation of projects. Work is reviewed in terms of the achievement of long-term goals.Supervision GivenMay assign work to support staff and Work Learn students when needed.QualificationsMinimumUndergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of three years of experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one’s own.Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.PreferredPostgraduate training in Health Administration, Education, Public Health or other relevant health profession, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.Experience in project management and/or coordinating projects involving multiple stakeholders. The work involves building relationships with external partners, including patients, community organizations and Indigenous partners, and requires attention to real and perceived barriers to participation, including tokenism, power dynamics, stereotyping, systemic racism, exploitation, and other inequities. The incumbent must understand and exercise the principles of confidentiality and best practices for Indigenous, patient and community engagement.Experience planning and coordinating educational and research activities in an academic environment is an asset.Demonstrated skills in critical thinking and analysis related to strategic planning and project management.Ability to develop, plan, coordinate, and manage initiatives involving multiple stakeholders and within allocated time and resources.Experience with Indigenous health practices and/or fostering community partnerships is an asset.Ability to think conceptually (i.e. use creative, conceptual, or inductive reasoning or thought processes to identify patterns in complex data, and identify key or underlying issues in complex situations).Ability to work independently and take initiative to achieve outcomes with the highest degree of integrity and accountability.Ability to exercise diplomacy and sound judgment when interpreting information and making decisions or recommendations.Ability to communicate effectively and professionally both orally and in writing, including making presentations, and tailoring communications to diverse and specific audiences.Ability to foresee, prevent, and resolve conflicts and other project-related issues.Demonstrated strong communication and interpersonal skills and competencies.Ability to develop and maintain cooperative and productive working relationships.Ability to deal effectively with a diversity of people (e.g. faculty, staff, students, Indigenous partners, patients, community partners, external organizations, etc.) in a professional and courteous manner.Ability to deal with sensitive or confidential information with the utmost professionalism, tact and discretion.Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office (including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) at an intermediate/ advanced level.Ability to use video and web conferencing technologies (e.g. Zoom, Teams) for meetings.Must be able to work at UBC Okanagan campus in Kelowna and travel to Vancouver periodically.
