Our aspiration is to bring the best minds together, to provide them with world-leading tools and resources and a unique structure that fosters real agility and entrepreneurial spirit.About This JobAs Medical Affairs (MA) Lead for Specialty Medicines for our UK Affiliate, you will report to the UK Head of Medical Affairs and lead a small, experienced team.You will be responsible for providing strategic MA Leadership and for overseeing all MA activities and deliverables for the Specialty Therapy Area. You will ensure all MA tactics address local, UK business needs and bring value to patients, advancing the medical and scientific understanding of Astellas products.Working with cross functional teams in Commercial, Regulatory and HEOR you will help ensure the safety and appropriate use across the lifecycle of the Specialty productsHybrid workingAt Astellas we recognise that our employees enjoy having balance between their professional and home lives.   • Develop a clear understanding of the therapeutic area objectives and ensure medical input to the Therapy Area (TA) brand teams. Includes scientific materials for product presentations, publication planning, advisory boards and symposia ensuring compliance at all times. Ensure all sign off processes are efficient, timely and well communicated with the Medical, Marketing and Sales
  • Leverage regional and/or global medical initiatives to meet local business needs, while maintaining an enterprise view. Develop and support strong relationships with advocacy stakeholder groups, serving as a key Astellas medical spokesperson with governmental agencies, regulatory bodies, professional associations, and the healthcare community at large.
  • Provide meaningful MA Value metrics, quality assurance controls, and operational assessment/analysis plans relevant to TA MA activities and deliverables. Seek and identify relevant trends/stakeholder insights to shape Therapy Area MA strategies and deliverables. Provides strategic leadership and direction across all functions of the TA MA department to ensure activities/deliverables are based on scientific validity, clinical importance, fiscal feasibility and aligned to the Core Medical Plans
  • Proactive in attracting, hiring, developing, and retaining a high-performing TA team, supporting developmental experiences for future growth. Ensure appropriate/stretching Development Plans for team members and coaching as required, fostering a culture of innovation, teamwork, and accountability
  • Maintain an integrated partnership with Medical Affairs and cross-functional colleagues to identify innovative, collaborative opportunities, ensuring optimal alignment for leveraging resource to enhance business priorities.

Essential Knowledge & Experience:

  • Solid scientific/medical experience from within Medical Affairs with a strong knowledge of UK Regulatory/Payer/HTA bodies, ICH GCP guidelines, Industry regulations, and quality standards
  • Strong scientific, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to think strategically, lead/manage projects and appropriate budgets
  • Able to work with cross functional teams and ensure medical/scientific compliance and relevance for commercial activities. Engage with a diverse range of senior stakeholders, able to influence and respectfully challenge if required
  • Proven ability in managing, supporting, and developing a small team, providing coaching and direction as and when required
  • Fluent in spoken and written business English with excellent communication and presentation skills

Education/Qualifications:

  • MD qualification preferred or PhD in health-related science, PharmD or equivalent scientific qualification.

Additional information:

  • This is a full time, permanent position based in the UK. This position does not have an assigned relocation/visa sponsorship budget
  • The position follows our hybrid working model with a blend of home and minimum 1-day per quarter in the office. Flexibility may be required in line with business need. Candidates should be located within a commutable distance of the office
