Mission and objectives
As the knowledge frontier organization for sustainable development, UNDP works in 170 countries and territories to eradicate poverty, reduce inequality and realize the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). UNDP’s Bureau for Policy and Programme Support (BPPS) has the responsibility for developing relevant policies and guidance to support the results of UNDP’s Strategic Plan. BPPS’ Hubs on Nature, Climate, Energy and Waste work with governments, civil society, and private sector partners to integrate natural capital, environment and climate concerns into national and sector planning and inclusive growth policies; support country obligations under Multilateral Environmental Agreements; and implement the UN’s largest portfolio of in-country programming on environment, climate change, and energy.
Context
The Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) was adopted during the 15th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). This Framework sets out an ambitious pathway to reach the global vision of a world living in harmony with nature by 2050 and supports the achievement of the SDGs. Ahead of the COP16, parties are requested to revise and update their National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs). Effective knowledge management is critical for the implementation of the GBF and NBSAPs. UNDP’s Nature Pledge puts nature at the heart of development and is supporting over 140 countries reach the GBF targets by focusing on three pillars: Value shift, Economy and Finance shift and Policy and Practice shift.
Task Description
We are looking for 2 Online Volunteers who have experience in research. The task will include the following responsibilities: – Conduct online research on knowledge management tools that countries can utilize for implementing the Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) and National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) – Create an overview of the tools on a spreadsheet with agreed upon indicators (e.g. data, information, knowledge, geographic scope, languages etc.) The Online Volunteer/s will have the opportunity to engage with UNDP Nature Hub representatives and learn about how knowledge management can support global and national nature conservation efforts. The Online Volunteer/s will be expected to be available for at least two virtual calls and provide status updates by email.
