University Lawyer

University of Bristol

To enhance its current team – supporting delivery of the University’s refreshed Vision and Strategy and on-going operations – our Legal Services team are looking for a commercial contracts lawyer to join our supportive, inclusive and well-respected team.

This is a full-time, permanent role but applications from those wishing to work part-time are also welcomed.

The University of Bristol is a top 10 UK university and 61st in the world (QS World University Rankings 2023).

Bristol is a great place to live and work; the University offers some great Staff Benefits too, including up to 40 days annual leave per year.

Working with us is stimulating and varied; two days are rarely the same.  You will work with a broad range of colleagues, advising the University (an exempt charity) on a wide range of legal and commercial issues.

Your day could involve advising academic and internal services colleagues on a multi-party international educational partnership; working with our procurement team on a high-value IT purchase or providing advice to a member of our senior management team.

This is a broad role and will touch on a wide variety of areas of law which reflects the diversity of the University’s operations and activities.    It is an excellent opportunity for you to expand your career and experience within many different legal areas.

You must have the confidence and experience to work independently and give sound advice in the context of the University’s aims, objectives and strategies.

You will be qualified (or otherwise entitled to practice) as a solicitor or barrister in England and Wales.

Experience of working in the higher education sector would be useful but is not essential.  Strong interpersonal, organisational and IT skills are essential.

This role would suit a commercial lawyer looking to make a big difference in a diverse and exciting organisation. Our ways of working are an excellent alternative to working in practice whilst still offering personal growth and job satisfaction.

For informal queries please contact Susan Thomas, [email protected]

This advert will close at 23:59 GMT on Wednesday 28th June.

We recently launched our strategy  to 2030 tying together our mission, vision and values.

The University of Bristol aims to be a place where everyone feels able to be themselves and do their best in an inclusive working environment where all colleagues can thrive and reach their full potential. We want to attract, develop, and retain individuals with different experiences, backgrounds and perspectives – particularly people of colour, LGBT+ and disabled people – because diversity of people and ideas remains integral to our excellence as a global civic institution.
