Mission and objectives

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) has supported more than 60 Member States in preventing and responding to violence against children and empowering children to become agents in their own protection since the launch of its Global Programme to End Violence against Children in 2015. Under the Global Programme to End Violence against Children, UNODC is implementing a project titled “STRIVE Juvenile: Preventing and Responding to Violence against Children by Terrorist and Violent Extremist Groups”, focusing on focus on assisting governmental authorities and key stakeholders in targeted, innovative and demand-driven interventions to 1. Improve government strategies, policies and mechanisms related to child recruitment and exploitation by terrorist groups; and 2. Context

The purpose of this assignment is to support the STRIVE Juvenile project by assisting with research, report drafting, training material development, and translation. This will directly contribute to the project”s goals of preventing child recruitment by terrorist groups, while also providing the volunteer with valuable learning opportunities in the justice for children thematic area.

Task Description

– Conduct desk research on justice for children, child protection and counter-terrorism; – Drafting short background notes or summaries in English and/or Arabic (2–3 pages each); – Supporting the development of four training modules by preparing PPT slides and training handouts; – Reviewing up to 3 draft reports for clarity, accuracy, and grammar. – Contribute to the drafting of 4 activity reports. – Participate remotely online in weekly team meetings and ad-hoc online meetings. – All tasks will be carried out remotely in close collaboration with the project team. Volunteers will receive guidance and feedback throughout.
