On 29 May 1948, the United Nations Security Council, in its resolution 50 (1948) called for a cessation of hostilities in Palestine and established the first peacekeeping mission headed by a UN Mediator with the assistance of a group of military observers to be known as the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO). UNTSO is mandated to observe and maintain the unconditional ceasefires and assist the parties to the 1949 Armistice Agreements in the supervision of the application and observance of the terms of those Agreements. UNTSO’s mandate covers five countries, including Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, and the Syrian Arab Republic. This position is located in the Transport Unit in UNTSO OGL, Naqoura. The incumbent assists in making maintenance and repair services in support of surface transport vehicles and material handling equipment in a field mission in accordance with the functional responsibilities of the Transport Maintenance Workshop Unit.
Responsibilities
Under the overall direction of UNTSO Chief Transport Officer, the Regional Administrative Officer of OGL in Naqoura and the direct supervision of the Motor Transport Officer and within delegated authority, the Vehicle Technician will be responsible for the following duties: • Perform various levels of maintenance and repairs to light, medium and heavy-duty vehicles in line with UNTSO guidelines and the vehicle manufacturer’s recommendations. • Services and repairs UNTSO diesel vehicles manual and automatic transmissions, transfer boxes and differential assemblies, as applicable. • Performs complex maintenance services including complete repair, rebuild and/or overhaul and final adjustment of a variety of engines including air conditioning, fuel, steering, braking and suspension systems. • Replaces clutch assemblies, resurfacing of brake discs and drums, conducts tyre repairs and electronic wheel balancing. • Performs tests on rolling brake tester machines to evaluate braking systems for safety and efficiency, as required. • Uses specialized tools and workshop equipment as recommended by the vehicle manufacturers to ensure that all repairs are carried out in accordance with specifications set out in the respective repair manuals and service bulletins. • Test-drives vehicles after repairs or maintenance and determine corrective actions to be taken, if necessary. • Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Motor Transport Officer, Administrative Officer or Transport Officer, UNTSO

Education
High school diploma or equivalent is required. Technical Training as a Motor Vehicle Technician (National Technician Certificate or equivalent) is required.
Job – Specific Qualification
• Valid driver’s license ‘C’ class is required. Technical Training as a Motor Vehicle Technician (National Technician Certificate or equivalent) is required.
Work Experience
At least three (03) years of professional experience in transport workshop-related mechanic functions is required. Experience in working with diesel engines and large fleet of vehicles is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required; Fluency in the local language, Arabic is required.
